Sportsman Channel Original Series “Sheep Shape” Champions Adventure and Triumph in Season Premiere Thursday, June 25 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (June 19, 2015) – Cancer. The loss of a leg. Childhood abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These are challenges four hunters – Chad Hall, Rick Carone, Kelsie Burford and Patrick Scrogin – must wrestle with as they embark on another life-altering journey during the 12-episode Sportsman Channel saga Sheep Shape exclusively premiering on Thursday, June 25 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Screen Shot 2015-06-19 at 3.10.39 PMBy finding solace in the great outdoors, these daring hunters continue to reflect and attempt to overcome personal obstacles while on a high mountain hunt for sheep, mountain goat, bear and caribou. Hunting locations including: Alaska, the Yukon and Northwest Territories serve as the backdrop for this rugged and unforgiving test of endurance, stamina and will to overcome. The terrain is tough, but the hunters will train to prove they are tougher.

Co-produced by Reel Wild Creative and Rusted Rooster, catch a sneak peek of the Sportsman Channel original series here: http://www.thesportsmanchannel.com/shows/sheep-shape/ and tune into the season premiere of Sheep Shape, featuring back-to-back episodes, Thursday, June 25 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT exclusively on Sportsman Channel.

“Sportsman Channel’s Sheep Shape stays true to our viewers’ passionate outdoor lifestyle,” explained Mitch Petrie, vice president of programming for Sportsman Channel. “The show also brings aspects of unexpected life challenges and ultimately creates compelling television that hunters and non-hunters will find relatable.”

Four hunters battle separate life challenges. Together, with the help of their trainers and coaches, they will work to accomplish one common goal: dominate a North American high mountain hunt. The physical requirements of the hunt are brutal, but the mental and emotional obstacles these hunters will face, at times, far outweigh the physical.

High mountain hunts are not for the weary. And training must be taken seriously. The hunters will hit the gym and go into the field to prepare themselves for the most challenging hunt of their lives. The terrain is taxing but the emotional and mental obstacles the hunters will encounter could make or break their hunting success. Viewers will witness the struggle between personal life challenges – including cancer, war injuries, childhood abuse and bullying – and the fight to defy the odds and conquer fear on a hunt of a lifetime.

“High mountain hunts aren’t just about the harvest – it’s more about the blood, sweat and tears it takes to get to that mountain peak – to hike through that shrouded valley,” said Burford. “It’s about knowing, despite whatever challenges you may be facing in other aspects of your life, you are more than capable of accomplishing a grueling training regimen, or a hunt you’ve been dreaming of for years.”

For a closer look, meet the hunters:

Chad Hall (St. Petersburg, Fla.) – At 19 years old, Hall was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. The disease caused his knee to be completely replaced and he lost parts of his quadricep muscle, femur and tibia. The replacement resulted in having to learn to walk again with more than 1,000 days of physical therapy and a few more surgeries under his belt. Hall never looked back and has set his sights on training for one of his lifelong dreams – to hunt wild sheep.

Rick Carone (Cary, Ill.) – After playing four years of professional baseball in the Chicago White Sox minor league organization, Carone became heavily involved in the outdoor lifestyle. In 2014, Carone’s life was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer. His fight against the disease has become powerfully inspirational and the entire outdoor industry has come to the prayerful aid of this outdoorsman.

Kelsie Burford (Helena, Mont.) – Having dreamed of playing college basketball, Burford experienced sexual abuse and bullying as a child that took her dream away. She has battled PTSD, suicidal thoughts and depression before reaching this point in her life. For half of her life she let others dictate her life and let them win. Meeting Johnny (her husband) and hunting has empowered her to pursue her athletic abilities in a way she never thought existed.

Patrick Scrogin (Cibolo, Texas) – While serving as an Army Chief Warrant Officer in Iraq, engine failure caused Scrogin’s helicopter to hurtle toward the ground. In the six seconds it took for the helicopter to touch down, Patrick leveled the aircraft out of a 75-degree bank turn and saved his and his co-pilots’ lives. Though he had nine fractured vertebrae, an above-the-knee amputation, a crushed pelvis, nerve damage and a partial amputation of a middle finger – Patrick was ready to get back in the air to learn how to fly with a prosthetic leg.

“What struck me about Chad, Kelsie, Patrick and Rick, is their ability to take the cards they’ve been dealt, and really work to achieve something they’ve all wanted to do for years,” said Chase Reatherford, lead editor for Sheep Shape. “Capturing their ups, downs, and everything in between will hopefully give viewers – people who may be dealing with similar challenges – the confidence to say ‘I can do this,’ and a glimpse into what it takes to pull off a hunt of this caliber.”

Sportsman Channel’s “Shed Wars” Rage On Thursday, June 18 at 8 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (June 16, 2015) – Justin “Iron Man” Greshko and Team Grenda face daunting obstacles in this week’s episode of Sportsman Channel’s Shed Wars. A spring snowstorm sweeps through the Rocky Mountains causing “Iron Man” more trouble than he bargains for and the Grendas are in for a surprise when Adam struggles to land their bush plane. Shed Wars airs exclusively Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Sportsman Channel.

Shed-Wars-Justin-Greshko-320x200Greshko risks driving onto muddy roads to reach a location he has never shed hunted before. The unpredictable weather brings sheets of snowfall and after deeming the remainder of his trek too dangerous, he decides to head home. The spring snow takes its toll on the roads, and Iron Man’s vehicle won’t budge in the mud – leaving him stranded.

As the shed season progresses, Adam and Tana Grenda continue to fly their bush plane to easily locate antlers from the sky. But this week, the couple realizes their once helpful tactic could become dangerous. “The wind must have switched to a tailwind and we were moving way too fast across the ground to land,” explained Adam Grenda. “I came in too hot and I [couldn’t] get the plane to land. We [were] going to overshoot and run into the fence at the end.”

Viewers also will catch a glimpse into the buying and selling of sheds, as Fish prepares to meet with “Antler Man” – one of the most well-known antler brokers in the country. Fish’s pile of sheds weighs in at nearly 4,000 pounds, but he worries tensions will rise if they can’t see eye to eye on pricing.

Sportsman Channel’s “Saving Private K-9” Offers Back-to-Back Episodes, Season Finale Airs Thursday, June 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (June 8, 2015) – Sportsman Channel’s Saving Private K-9 reports for duty in the season finale with a special two-episode event. Explosions, bravery, camaraderie and strength outline the intense episodes featuring two K-9 heroes and their handlers, whose mission is to protect and serve. Tune in to the award-winning original series Saving Private K-9 on Thursday, June 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT exclusively on Sportsman Channel.

savingprivatek9randyvandusenbodie-320x200When the Taliban began to retreat from Sangin, one of the most dangerous cities in Afghanistan, they left behind hidden explosives, in hopes of stinting U.S. troop numbers. Marine Cpl. Jose Armenta and his K-9 partner Zenit are called to ensure the safety of their fellow soldiers while setting up a patrol base in the area. The brave team discovers and eliminates multiple IEDs on their mission. But danger continues to lurk in all corners of the city, making the discovery of every threat nearly impossible – a fact the team would soon learn when Cpl. Armenta steps on an IED.

“I take one step, and my ears just ring and everything goes slowly,” recalls Cpl. Armenta. “My body is stiff as a board and I feel like I’m on fire. At that moment I knew instantly I had stepped on an IED.”

The danger and bravery continues in Episode Two when a routine traffic stop turns into a high-speed pursuit, as a suspected car thief evades law enforcement. Officer Randy Van Dusen releases K-9 Bodie, a patrol and narcotics detection dog, to engage the suspect. Unbeknownst to the officers, the suspect is carrying a stolen gun. Moments later, Bodie finds himself in the most dangerous fight of his life – a fight that would showcase just how strong the bond between a K-9 and handler can be.

“The bond between a handler and his K-9 partner is one that’s difficult to explain. We are with these dogs 24/7. They are our partner at work, our friend at home and they love us no matter what,” said Officer Van Dusen. “They are with us in very stressful situations. We are always together as a team. He is part of the family, and you never leave family behind.”

Sportsman Channel’s “Shed Wars” Take to the Sky Thursday, June 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (June 8, 2015) – The heart of shed season has arrived and Team Grenda (Adam and Tana Grenda) could not be more excited. In this week’s episode of Sportsman Channel’s Shed Wars, the Grenda’s put their pilot’s licenses to good use on an aerial journey to shed hunt from a bush plane. Back on the ground, Brady “Bone Daddy” Dixon finds himself in an unexpected race for time. Shed Wars airs exclusively Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Sportsman Channel.

By combining Team Grenda’s two passions – flying bush planes and shed hunting – they become an unstoppable team. Adam and Tana Grenda work together to pinpoint sheds from the sky, marking the coordinates with their GPS and tracking the antlers once they are back on the ground. It is an expensive endeavor, reserved only for the heart of shed season. Team Grenda hopes to discover as many antlers as they can from the sky, without losing their bearings once on the ground.

“Your prospective from the sky is so different,” said Tana Grenda. “But that’s why we mark it on our GPS, because if we see it in the air, there’s no way to find it on the ground and try to navigate your way around.

While Team Grenda hopes to gain an advantage over the other competitors from the sky, remaining teams continue their search for antlers on the ground – including Brady “Bone Daddy” Dixon. The intense hunter brings out his ATV for a more efficient antler hunt, but discovers even the most unsuccessful day can bring more shed hunting woes. While out scouting, Bone Daddy loses his ATV keys with only a moment’s notice to decide if he will continue to search or walk back to his truck as nightfall quickly closes in.

Pigman: The Series Shares Emotional Road to Recovery in Two-Part Episode of “Pigman Rising” Sunday, June 7 on Sportsman Channel

Special Guest Ret. Staff Sgt. Shilo Harris Attempts to Take Pigman on First Hunt Since Accident

NEW BERLIN, WI (June 2, 2015) – “These are the two hardest episodes I’ve ever filmed,” states Brian “Pigman” Quaca in the opening sequence of a special two-part event called “Pigman Rising” on Pigman: The Series, Sunday, June 7 at 8 p.m. ET exclusively on Sportsman Channel.

“I am not sure if I was ready to come back. I may look a little different – I am still healing, but trust me in my heart I’m exactly the same. And you definitely don’t want to miss these two shows,” continues Quaca. The conclusion of the two-part event is on June 14 at 8 p.m. ET. Quaca also will host a Twitter chat during the episode and fans can ask questions using #PigmanRising and following @SmokinPork.

BrianPigmanQuaca-320x200On Dec. 26, 2014, Brian “Pigman” Quaca nearly died in a horrific automobile accident on a snowy road in Colorado. The violent crash left Quaca critically injured, with devastating injuries that included 11 skull fractures, bleeding on the brain, cracked ribs and blood in his lungs. In this two-part episode, Pigman and his dad, Dap, go into great detail about the circumstances surrounding the accident, Quaca’s fight for his life and the numerous obstacles he has overcome – including severe nerve damage and significant vision loss.

Viewers will follow Quaca along one of numerous doctor visits, acupuncture treatments and more as he, and Dap, struggle with their new reality.

Seeing his son struggle, Dap finds Ret. Staff Sgt. Shilo Harris who has lived to tell his near-death story in his book Steel Will. While on patrol in Iraq in 2007, Harris’ Humvee hit an IED. That blast cost Shilo his ears, part of his nose, some fingers and over one third of the skin on his body – as well as three of his best friends.

“For me the physical scars will heal quickly,” stated Harris. “But there’s an internal, emotional and mental healing that goes with this. That’s why I’m here to help. (Brian) is going to realize just how strong he can be. He’s not broken. This is a new chapter in his book.”

What Dap doesn’t realize is Harris is there not only to help get Pigman back out on his first hunt since his accident, but also to help heal the emotional wounds inside Dap and the entire family.

“I love getting out hunting,” concluded Harris. “I know how therapeutic it is. I am hoping to encourage Brian to get out there to do what he does best – to kill pigs.”

Sportsman Channel’s “Saving Private K-9” Calls on Canine Cops in Back-to-Back Episodes on Thursday, June 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (June 1, 2015) – How do working dogs and their handlers control a home invasion? Or find a suspected drug dealer on the run? The award-winning original series Saving Private K-9 answers these questions and more in two emotional and inspiring back-to-back episodes on Thursday, June 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT exclusively on Sportsman Channel.

SPK9BanditOfficerGaryDahl-320x200Episode One takes viewers on a dangerous and highly-charged patrol to apprehend a suspected drug dealer. Shadow, a Dutch Shepherd trained as a narcotics detection dog, is on the case. Shadow’s handler, Officer Mark Rand of the Indianapolis Police Department, witnesses the fierce dog engage the suspect. The process, a seemingly routine procedure and apprehension, suddenly went wrong when the suspect began hurtling down a dangerously steep hill, Shadow in tow. Officer Rand knows his K-9 teammate was tough, but training back at the station couldn’t prepare the dog for a potentially lethal fall.

“When you first go on the streets with a new dog, there are two feelings,” explained Officer Rand. “One is the excitement of a new dog and being able to see a dog that you spent hours in training…getting to actually see him perform in the world and seeing what he is capable of. But then there’s also the anxiety of, is this dog actually going to engage a person on the street when there’s no equipment around and do what he’s been trained to do?”

The action continues in Episode Two, as Officer Gary Dahl of the Sacramento Police Department and K-9 Bandit are called to the scene of a home invasion. The suspect, armed and dangerous, fled the scene after Dahl’s failed attempts to call him to surrender. The perpetrator enters another home nearby, warranting Bandit’s release to obtain him. Officer Dahl loses sight of Bandit, and moments later his stomach drops, as shots are fired. Officer Dahl soon discovers it is a race for time…and his K-9 partner’s survival.

“Bandit has kept so many people safe that have no clue as to who he is or what he’s ever done. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him and have my family be around him. That’ll be something I’ll have for the rest of my life,” said Officer Dahl.

Questions Surround Sportsman Channel’s First Episode of “Shed Wars” As Reality Tumbles Face First with Reality

Episode Three Airs on Thursday, June 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (June 1, 2015) – When the first episode of Sportsman Channel’s Shed Wars (Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT) concluded, viewers were left on the side of a trail in the Rocky Mountains with The Rack Pack (Josh Yandle and Justin Lottman) wondering how they were going to scale the dangerous Rocky Mountain ravine in the pitch dark with limited light available or be forced to spend the night in the wilds.

ShedWarsTeamAdrenaline-320x200Talk about a cliffhanger!

When viewers returned for the second episode, expecting to see how Yandle and Lottman managed to escape the danger-filled scenario, the scene was curiously absent of explanation.

How and why?

Reality collided with “reality” when a member of the True Sight Media production team – cameramen Forest Cox – fell 35 feet down the side of the mountain ravine while trying to shoot the scene – in the dark – for episode two. Cox’s fall resulted in the camera getting destroyed but, luckily, he was not seriously injured. The hearty cameraman did suffer a bruised spine, sprained wrist and swollen ankle but managed to return the next day to shoot more episodes.

“This was a case where the reality of ‘reality-based’ television came into play in a very dangerous scenario,” said Tyler Lindsay, senior producer for Shed Wars. “Losing the storyline of Josh and Justin was the least of our worries that night when Forest fell. In fact, Josh and Justin carried the injured cameraman to safety. Amazingly, Forest returned to the top of the mountain the next day to continue shooting more scenes for future episodes.”

Sportsman Channel’s new original series Shed Wars follows the adventures – sometimes dangerous – of five teams vying to compete for the skyrocketing demand for antler sheds in the Rocky Mountains. The underwhelming supply of sheds – with high demand – has turned the opening of shed season into one of the fiercest competitions the great outdoors has ever seen and sometimes life threatening. The five teams provide viewers a glimpse into what it takes to survive the entire shed hunting cycle. Through months of preparation and challenging Rocky Mountain terrain, they risk it all in the pursuit of the ultimate pay day.

Teams take great risk for what they hope will be an even greater reward. The four other teams include:

  • Bone Daddy – Brady “Bone Daddy” Dixon (Fruita, Colo.) is always convinced the next big score is just around the bend. Dixon is relentless in his pursuit for the next record breaking shed set. Love him or hate him, it is his way or the highway.
  • Fish – Fish Fisher (Bozeman, Mont.) has a long history of shed hunting. With the good book at his side, he is out to share the message and stack some bone.
  • Team Grenda – Bush pilot Tana Grenda, her brother Tom and husband Adam (Bonners Ferry Idaho), are all about having the upper hand. With ATVs, snowmobiles, dogs and an airplane at their disposal, they can overcome any obstacle standing in their way, and claim the hardest to reach shed piles.
  • Iron Man – Justin “Iron Man” Greshko’s (Edwards, Colo.) obsession with antlers keeps him awake at night. With the agility of a mountain goat and the veracity of a bear, there is no mountain that can contain him.
