Nature of Work:

Major League Fishing is seeking a motivated individual for the position of Digital Content Editor in our Tulsa, Oklahoma office. As a member of the growing MLF Digital Media team, this individual will report directly to the Sr. Director of Digital Media and Sr. Manager Digital Editorial.

The Digital Content Editor will be responsible for updating and maintaining and the MLF app, publishing articles, photos, videos and marketing/PR materials produced by the MLF and MLFLW digital content teams, as well as other departments within MLF/MLFLW. He/she will work closely with digital content managers and social media manager/specialists, making sure that all MLF digital platforms are updated, timely and accurate. This position requires a process-driven, detail-oriented, creative thinker who can operate fluidly under tight, “live sports” deadlines.

MLF is a fast-paced and exciting company that allows individuals to utilize and develop their creative skills and take their talents to the next level. We’re looking for a candidate who is upbeat, full of energy and always has a positive attitude. This is a full-time, salaried position based in Tulsa.

This is NOT a regular 9-to-5 position. This individual will be working as part of a team that covers hundreds of bass fishing tournaments a year, which means occasionally working early in the morning, late at night and on the weekends.

Examples of work performed:

  • Function at an expert level in a WordPress-based CMS (Content Management System) for and the MLF app; edit, publish and troubleshoot various types of media in the most efficient ways possible.
  • Review all content with a critical eye before it is published to the website and social media, editing accurately for spelling, grammar, accuracy and MLF/AP style.
  • Provide timely, efficient communication to the Sr. Director of Digital Media, Sr. Manager Digital Editor, Digital Content, Sales and Marketing teams regarding ongoing project and status updates.
  • Oversee SEO initiatives including site optimization, keyword analysis, content, link-building, site auditing, and competitive analysis.
  • Apply high-level creative and journalistic skills and grammatical knowledge in producing and editing digital content.
  • Assist in meeting production and fulfillment goals as set by MLF Digital Media department managers.
  • Contribute new content ideas to match consumer patterns on multiple digital platforms.
  • Repackage content creatively so it is compatible with mobile and social environments.
  • Work closely with members of the marketing team to understand the desired look and feel of Major League Fishing marketing deliverables.
  • Assist in advancing and maintaining MLF’s social media strategy, and publish content to social media platforms when necessary.

  • Minimum
    • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, a related field, or equivalent experience.

Competencies/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience with various Content Management Systems.
  • Experience with cloud-based online video platforms.
  • Knowledge of digital asset management systems.
  • Experience in digital photography/editing.
  • Experience in graphic design and video editing preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML5/CSS preferred, not required
  • Professional experience in journalism, website management or a related field.
  • Ability to build and maintain online communities and blogger relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and contribute to multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline environment.
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic video editing experience using Adobe Premiere is a plus.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills, both in person and by phone.
  • Knowledge of the professional bass fishing industry preferred, not required.
