Sportsman Channel’s “Apex Predator” Stands Tall – Thursday, April 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (April 27, 2015)Remi Warren, host of Sportsman Channel’s original series Apex Predator, considers the Great Blue Heron to be one of North America’s most underappreciated predators. With its long legs and ability to strike like lightening when a prospective fish draws near, they are one of the continent’s most productive and successful hunters. In this week’s episode, Warren will attempt to adopt the massive bird’s predatory strategies by navigating the edges of Michigan waterways on stilts.

Apex Predator airs Thursday, April 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT exclusively on Sportsman Channel.

apexpredator-blueheronIn an attempt to gain the perspective of the distinctive Great Blue Heron, Warren uses stilts to search Michigan waters for fish with a spear in hand. The view has its advantages, but Warren finds the refraction – a drawback the heron has adapted to – makes it difficult to know how far below the surface of the water his potential fare swims. Unaccustomed to the balancing act required to remain upright on stilts, after hours in the water, Warren begins to question his ability to hunt as a heron.

“It’s pretty tough hunting like the heron because these fish are pretty deep,” explained Warren. “Where I’m seeing them on the surface of the water isn’t actually where they are. I’ve got the current, water refraction and the depth all working against me. The hardest part is just knowing when to strike.”

Sportsman Channel’s “Apex Predator” Runs with Wolves – Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (April 20, 2015) – Intrigued by the Grey Wolf’s physical ability to hunt, Remi Warren, host of Sportsman Channel’s original series Apex Predator, explores what it takes to run with wolves. He will test his own strength and endurance by attempting to run down a herd of elk with a bow – as a wolf. When his physical strength isn’t enough, he must enlist the help of his brother and the director and cinematographer of Apex Predator, to form a wolf pack. Warren leads the pack in this week’s episode of Apex Predator airing Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT exclusively on Sportsman Channel.

Wolves are well designed hunters and in order to hunt like one, Warren must learn the physical attributes he needs to successfully execute the wild animal’s hunting techniques. Warren heads to the local professional sports and fitness training center to learn the science behind his own physical strengths and weaknesses in comparison to a wolf. Warren discovers he is extremely fit and agile – for a human – but his physical strengths cannot compete with a wolf’s natural ability. Warren uses his newfound knowledge to use the tactics of a wolf on a bowhunt for elk. When he realizes physical fitness isn’t enough, he devises a new plan and forms a wolf pack with his brother and members of the Apex Predator team.

apexpredator-300x169“It’s amazing how quickly bonds can form when you’re engaged in a shared task like a hunt,” said Warren. “I think I have a little taste of what it really means to be a wolf. You live as a pack, you die as a pack and you succeed and fail as a pack.”

Follow along with @RemiWarren and @ApexPredatorTV on Twitter for a LIVE tweet throughout Thursday’s episode of Apex Predator, beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Sportsman Channel’s “Apex Predator” Hides in Plain Sight in Season Premiere – Thursday, April 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (April 7, 2015) – Cold-blooded alligators have highly attuned hearing, night vision and an uncanny ability to blend in with their surroundings. These are attributes Remi Warren, host of Sportsman Channel’s original series Apex Predator, will attempt to emulate. Warren meets with experts and learns what it takes to become a “lie and wait” predator – blending in with the environment, silently pinpointing prey and striking without warning – on a hunt for wild pig.

Apex Predator premieres on Thursday, April 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Sportsman Channel.

There is no better way to understand how an alligator hunts then to become one with its environment. In order to do this right, Warren meets with gator biologists and a human performance specialist to discover what it means to remain “hidden in plain sight” and to practice conserving energy. Though Warren can’t compete with an alligator’s 2,000 pounds of bite force, he begins a hunt for wild pig from the depths of a Central Florida swamp – alligator style.

apexpred“By being at eye level to the water and looking at the world through the lens of the alligator, it’s really pushed my own personal boundaries on what it means to be close and to be patient and to be stealthy,” said Warren. “As a hunter, that’s what I strive for and that’s what I take away from this lesson. I learned what it means to have to be patient. If I took that into every avenue of hunting it would overall make me a better hunter.”

Illinois Painter Goes for Monster Muleys on Sportsman Channel’s “Brotherhood Outdoors” on Sunday, April 5 at 11 a.m. ET

NEW BERLIN, WI (April 1, 2015) – On Sunday’s episode of Brotherhood Outdoors presented by Bank of Labor, Union Sportsmen’s Alliance member, Steve Lefaver, leaves his comfortable home in Montgomery, Ill. for the rustic, chilly surroundings of Lewiston, Mont. in search for his first monster muley. Tune in to see all the action on Brotherhood Outdoors on Sportsman Channel on Sunday, April 5 at 11 a.m. ET.

See a preview of the episode here.

brotherhoodoutdoorsLefaver is the Director of Apprenticeship and Training for Painters District Council 30, Local 448 in Montgomery, Ill. After a challenging start to hunting in crowded public lands in the Chicago suburbs, Lefaver is beyond excited to hunt in Big Sky Country with Brotherhood Outdoors’ hosts Daniel Lee Martin and Julie McQueen. “Once I heard Julie McQueen’s voice asking if I would be interested in filming a hunt with her and Daniel Lee in Montana, I was super excited – and I didn’t necessarily believe it at the time!” exclaimed Lefaver.

Once he laid tracks on the nearly 7,000 acres of Bear Paw Outfitters, Lefaver’s excitement grew – and so did the cold. “I’m not used to covering this much land to track deer as we usually sit stationary in a treestand waiting for a deer to cross our path,” said Lefaver.

Bachman’s decoys were put to the test as buck after buck came in to put on a show just beneath her feet. “Bucks in the rut don’t want to lay down or be still, they want to either get in a fight or find a doe, and I’m going to use that to my advantage,” said Bachman.

Sportsman Channel Claws Its Way to the Top of the Food Chain with Original Series “Apex Predator” – Premiering Thursday, April 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (March 31, 2015) – It took man thousands and thousands of years to become an apex predator – the predator residing at the very top of the food chain. On Thursday, April 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, Sportsman Channel premieres an exclusive, original hunting series unlike anything ever seen before from Zero Point Zero Productions – Apex Predator.

For a sneak peek of what’s in store for the season, click here.

apexpred300 Throughout this Sportsman Channel original series, host Remi Warren will try to take viewers into the minds and souls of some of nature’s most predatory animals and give new meaning to the expression “becoming one with nature.”

Whether wading through alligator-infested waters or using the power of modern optics, Warren will meet with experts and professionals to learn about animals and their adaptations, design tests and trials to emulate primal hunting tactics, and challenge himself through intense hunts…animal style. Not only does Warren go into the wild to embrace the environment – he becomes one with it, showing audiences what it takes to legitimately become part of nature’s dynamic food chain.

“This show will give viewers a very unique glimpse into the minds of a predator, and how those skills translate to Remi’s approach,” said Marc Fein, executive vice president of programming and production for Sportsman Channel. “He is able to explain and execute this approach in a way that entertains and educates the audience in a very compelling fashion.”

Each episode of Apex Predator focuses on three distinct phases: research, training and a free-range hunt test in which Warren puts his practice into action. First, Warren identifies the animal or tactic he wants to learn and then taps into the knowledge of real-world experts in the fields of biology, physiology and ecology to help understand how animals have evolved into amazing predators. With the assistance of expert help, he designs high-energy training regiments to adopt and embody the traits of these animal hunters. The final step in the process requires Warren to hunt like an animal, resulting in experiences and knowledge that help him in his quest to become the Apex Predator.

Apex Predator is a very different type of hunting show,” admits Warren. “The show combines the adventure of difficult hunting with an opportunity to learn about hunters that came before us. I do my best to understand the thinking of a predator and ‘become’ many different animals in the wild throughout the process.”

Blake Shelton and Guy Fieri Spend Time Turkey Hunting on Sportsman Channel’s Avian-X TV on March 7 at 7 p.m. ET

Special Episode of Avian-X Featuring Blake Shelton and Guy Fieri Part of Sportsman Channel’s Annual “Talkin’ Turkey” Series Block

New Berlin, WI (March 3, 2015) – What do Guy Fieri and Blake Shelton have in common? It is their love of turkey hunting (and eating them). Watch a special episode of Avian-X TV featuring Fieri and Shelton spending time clucking, gobbling and cooking up turkey on Shelton’s ranch on March 7 at 7 p.m. ET.

talkinturkey2This special Avian-X TV episode is part of Sportsman Channel’s overall series block Talkin’ Turkey presented by Avian-X, which begins at 4 p.m. ET on March 7 with non-stop turkey action.

For a sneak peek of this special episode and more: click here.

Head to Facebook for a live Facebook chat from 4-8 p.m. ET Saturday night with Matt Morett, Josh Grossenbacher and all the guys from Avian-X TV at http://facebook.com/AvianXTV

The Avian-X cameras go inside Shelton’s annual Oklahoma Turkey Camp, which according to Shelton, is his tenth annual hunting trip with Matt Morett, co-host of Avian-X TV. But this time, Shelton also invited Food Network star and renowned chef, Guy Fieri, to join their flock.

“Everybody comes to camp with their own responsibilities and skill set. My skill set is I can cook – and yes, I had to cook, as there was no food here. I wasn’t sure what Blake intended for us to eat, but I have to feed the boys as we have to be up early tomorrow,” said Fieri.

“I’ve been a fan of Guy Fieri for a long time and having him in camp and eating his food was just unbelievable,” said Fred Zink, owner of Zink’s Calls and co-host of Avian-X TV. “He and Blake decided to have a turkey hunting competition so I paired up with Blake, which I think gave us the home field advantage and we don’t have to camouflage frosted, yellow hair like the other team did.”

Everyone gets a chance at the wary birds during the hour-long episode, but the truly unique time was between Shelton and Morett as they headed out for their annual hunt. “No doubt in my mind that Morett is a world champion turkey hunter. He’s a woodsman….and a master at calling in jakes…,” said Shelton with a smile.
