“Savage Outdoors” Four-Part Mini Series in Alaska Begins Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Sportsman Channel with Tracking Caribou

First Episode Begins with Caribou Hunt in the Brooks Range –

Remaining Episodes Focus on Bears

NEW BERLIN, WI (February 23, 2015) – Mike Stroff of Savage Outdoors is no stranger to tough hunting conditions, and certainly won’t turn down an adventure. For the next four weeks on Sportsman Channel, Stroff and crew find themselves facing beautiful – yet difficult – terrain that gets them face-to-face with a nine-and-a-half foot bear. Tune in to Savage Outdoors exclusively on Sportsman Channel for Part One of the series on Tuesday, February 24 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

SavageOutdoorsAlaska-300x300“What do you think of when you think of Alaska?” asks Stroff. “Unique, rugged, tough – it is a place to experience things you’ve never experienced before – it’s truly the last frontier.”

In the first part of the series, Stroff pursues caribou, which are abundant in the Brooks Range, but that doesn’t mean they are easy to hunt. “You can’t chase them, you have to get in front of where you think the herd might be tomorrow or the next day to even have a chance at them,” said Stroff. “They are so inquisitive. Some of them have never even seen a human before.”

The remaining three episodes, scheduled to air March 3, March 10 and March 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, find Stroff and his crew in a predator control unit where bears are abundant. Stroff brings his bow out for the remaining episodes for both brown and black bears and, eventually, the crew find themselves up close and personal with a nine-and-a-half foot bear.

“This bear footage is like nothing we’ve ever filmed before,” effused Stroff. “Not only did we get to see many bears, but we snuck in very close to them so I could get the best shot off with my bow. It will be a real treat for viewers.”

Savage Outdoors airs exclusively on Sportsman Channel on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Sportsman Channel’s “MeatEater” Turns Show Producers into First Time Hunters with Montana Hunt on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT

Steven Rinella Indoctrinates Two Female Hunters on Wild Adventure

NEW BERLIN, WI (February 23, 2015) – Brittany and Helen have worked on the production side of MeatEater for two years and have built up a strong desire to hunt for the first time. That desire becomes reality on Sportsman Channel after Steven Rinella secures two cow elk tags in Montana’s Sweet Grass Hills. Between hunters’ safety, shooting practice and training in the woods, the women are ready to face the unknown challenges of a spot and stalk hunt. Viewers will see the ups and downs unfold on MeatEater – airing exclusively Thursday, February 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

meateaterseasonfinale-300x234Brittany and Helen are city dwellers from New York City and have only watched hunting from a distance on their television screens. Upon arrival in Montana, Mother Nature greets the team with the harsh reality of whipping winds and cool temperatures. Both ladies are able to locate several herds of cow elk, however, topography and other elements may stand in their way of a successful result.

“I am always happy to introduce anyone – male or female – to the outdoors,” said Rinella. “As our pastime grows and the number of curious onlookers become larger, we need to be ready to educate them to our lifestyle. This particular hunt has been a long time in the making and I’m happy we could make it happen.”

MeatEater airs exclusively on Sportsman Channel on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Sportsman Channel’s “Amazing America with Sarah Palin” Experiences a Hunt of a Lifetime – Thursday, February 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT

NEW BERLIN, WI (February 23, 2015) – After a wish-granting foundation denied Tina Pattison’s son the opportunity to fulfil his dying wish – a moose hunt, she took matters into her own hands and founded Hunt of a Lifetime, with a mission to provide terminally-ill youth with the opportunity to live out their hunting dreams. Field host Tara Conner visits the foundation and joins two brothers, battling terminal illness, for a whitetail deer hunt of a lifetime on this week’s episode of Amazing America with Sarah Palin airing exclusively on Thursday, February 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Sportsman Channel.

AmazingAmericaWithSarahPalinHuntofALifetime-300x168Hunt of a Lifetime works to ensure children dealing with terminal illness have the chance to experience hunting adventures like never before – including two young brothers, both suffering from muscular dystrophy. Conner embarks on a hunt for whitetail deer with the duo, whose inspiring story and vibrant personalities shine through in the field.

“It is a humbling and awe-inspiring experience when you meet people who have a mission and stick to their guns without backing down,” said Conner. “These are kids who just want to live normal lives, and getting to experience the outdoors is a huge part of that.”

Bravery and inspiration continue as field host Jerry Carroll visits Kevin Shea, a volunteer firefighter, whose love of hunting inspired the founding of Hero Hunt Club. Shea helps provide affordable hunting trips around the country to firefighters and police officers. Carroll teams up with Shea to hunt with a few of New York’s bravest firefighters.

Amazing America with Sarah Palin airs exclusively on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Sportsman Channel.

Sportsman Channel’s “MeatEater” Indulges in a Jungle Feast on February 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT

Part Three of Steven Rinella’s Bolivian Jungle Hunt Brings Additional Surprises

NEW BERLIN, WI (February 17, 2015) – Hunting laws and regulations in the United States are vastly different from those of the rain forests in Bolivia. This is precisely the environment Steven Rinella finds himself while walking through the loud and eerie jungles of central Bolivia on the final episode of Sportsman Channel’s three-part MeatEater special. Despite the language barrier, Rinella has developed a rapport with the indigenous tribesmen during several days of hunting and fishing. The goal and challenge is to harvest a bounty large enough to feed the local tribe and end Rinella’s journey on a successful note.

meat-eater-finale Audiences can watch Rinella’s experience unfold on MeatEater – airing exclusively Thursday, February 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The host often talks and writes about his profound respect for how indigenous people harvest their food by any means necessary. The final episode of his South American adventure offers a vivid ‘A to Z’ account of how local tribesmen hunt and prepare for their collection of local foods. For the most part, Rinella has been a hunting spectator in the jungle thus far on his journey, but this episode may call on his skills.

“Bolivia was an eye-opening journey,” said Rinella. “Hunting is more than a lifestyle here – it’s a matter of survival, and to be able to hunt with individuals who have maintained a constant connection to the land for many years made this a special trip I will cherish and never forget.”

MeatEater airs exclusively on Sportsman Channel on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Sportsman Channel’s “Bowhunter TV” Returns for Season 11; Moves to 10:30 p.m. ET on Wednesdays

Series premieres Wednesday, December 31, and anchors “Big Game Wednesday”

NEW BERLIN, WI (December 17, 2014) – In a new season of Sportsman Channel’s Bowhunter TV, Host Mike Carney, Bowhunter magazine Editor Curt Wells, and Producer Danny Farris deliver more action-packed bowhunting adventures from across North America. The hunters share unique hunting opportunities and experiences, bow-and-arrow know-how, and on-the-ground insights helping to solidify Bowhunter magazine as the sport’s journal of record and an absolute staple for hardcore hunting archers since 1969. Taking advantage of the opportunity to air mid-week on an evening dedicated solely to the pursuit of big game, Bowhunter TV now premieres at 10:30 p.m. ET on Wednesdays on Sportsman Channel.

bhtv-openAs part of the network’s “Big Game Wednesday” lineup, the series will spotlight fair-chase bowhunts for America’s most popular big game species – whitetail deer, Rocky Mountain elk, and north-country black bears, to name a few – as well as other unique pursuits. Whether it’s applying elk-hunting strategies to the West’s high-country turkeys or spot-and-stalk tactics to ambush spawning Midwestern carp, there are plenty of unique pursuits in store. In addition, every episode brings you can’t-miss advice from resident experts – via Carney’s “Tech Talk” gear segment, pro archer Randy Ulmer’s “Dead On” shooting segment, and Wells’ “Moment of Truth” hunting segment.

The first episode premieres on New Year’s Eve at 10:30 p.m. ET. Wells, Equipment Editor Tony Peterson and TV Editor Derek Mleynek visit bone-dry Southern California in search of big hogs and Columbian blacktail deer. “Every season offers unique adventure and challenge,” said Wells. “This year Mother Nature was particularly challenging, running the gamut from historic drought conditions to record-setting cold and snow, but we persevered and, as usual, our bowhunting friends made the wild weather, wild places, and wild ride all worthwhile.”

No Guides, No Roofs, All DIY Hunting – Mike Schoby Travels “Border to Border” on Sportsman Channel

The 8-part transcontinental hunting expedition from New Mexico to Alaska

begins December 21 at 9 p.m. ET

NEW BERLIN, WI (December 16, 2014) – A journey from New Mexico to Alaska is most efficiently traveled via airplane. But Petersen’s Hunting Adventures’ Mike Schoby believes there is a better – more painstakingly rewarding – way to make the 6,000-mile journey. Schoby and his guest hosts put all preconceived notions of what it means to “rough it in the wild” aside, as they embark on an 8-part transcontinental hunting expedition by land with just basic provisions, minimal gas money, hunting gear and the will to survive. View the trailer for Petersen’s Hunting Border to Border here.

border-to-borderSchoby’s quest from New Mexico to Alaska begins Sunday, December 21 at 9 p.m. ET exclusively on Sportsman Channel.

Born in Seattle, Washington, Schoby grew up hunting blacktails and Roosevelt elk on public land. While the Pacific Northwest still calls to him, over the span of 25 years he has hunted most of the United States, several Canadian provinces, Mexico, South America, multiple African countries, Europe, Asia and New Zealand. He has authored five books on hunting, ranging from predator calling to DIY western big game. Schoby is the Editor of Petersen’s Hunting magazine.

For the eight weeks, Schoby sets out to accomplish a seemingly unattainable feat – traveling cross-country for 45 days, living off the land and rekindling the adventure of do-it-yourself hunting. Each episode documents Schoby’s day-by-day travels and experiences through six states and one Canadian province. The hunting quest begins on the New Mexico/Mexico border and heads north through Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, The Inside Passage (U.S./Canadian border), to Alaska.

The idea that nothing worthwhile comes easily permeates each leg of Schoby’s journey, with three daunting stipulations to guide the expedition. Schoby must never spend the night under a roof; no guides, all DIY hunting and fishing with public-attainable tags and licenses; and Schoby and his guests must survive on what they harvest, and the basic provisions in their kits. Money is limited and – with only a tent to sleep under (sometimes nothing at all) they often endure the full wrath of the elements.

Petersen’s Hunting Border to Border showcases intense hunts and a few humorous moments, while providing a platform for sparking interest in DIY hunting. From deserts to high mountain passes, the landscape Schoby and his guest hosts travel is vast and challenging; the level of difficulty, often extreme; and the need for self-assurance, paramount. All of which bring an element of danger to the journey. Follow along by visiting   http://www.petersenshunting.com/border-to-border/ for details on each hunt, exclusive photos, extensive gear information and how-to guides.

“One would think taking on an endeavor of this caliber might be impossible,” said Schoby. “But the goal was to prove that it’s an attainable feat – DIY hunting across the United States. Every hunter isn’t going to go to this extreme, but we hope to provide enough information to get even the most skeptical of hunters out in the wild, eating what they kill and bringing the adventure aspect back to hunting.”

Petersen’s Hunting Border to Border is an engaging way for the network to broaden the scope of outdoor television,” explained Marc Fein, executive vice president of programming and production at Sportsman Channel. “This series goes beyond everyday hunting and fishing in a way I think viewers will truly connect with and enjoy.”

Tune in to Petersen’s Hunting Border to Border Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.

“North American Whitetail” Celebrates 100 Years of the World-Record James Jordan Buck

NEW BERLIN, WI (November 10, 2014) Sportsman Channel’s North American Whitetail is celebrating 100 years of the James Jordan buck – one of the greatest typical whitetails ever harvested – on   Wednesday, November 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.  Gordon Whittington and Pat Hogan, hosts, provide the story behind the massive buck whose history is anything but ordinary. North American Whitetail airs exclusively on Sportsman Channel

NAW-10thanniversary-300x300Whittington walks in the footsteps of James Jordan and tells the story of an avid outdoorsman, whose love of hunting would lead, unbeknownst to him, to a world-record sized buck. Jordan’s whitetail story began in Danbury, Wisconsin and ended at a garage sale in Minnesota – or so he thought.  Jordan harvested a buck and delivered it to a taxidermist who never returned his prized deer. Years later, in a twist of fate, Jordan is reunited with his buck. But by the time Boone & Crockett declared its world-record status, Jordan had passed away a mere two months prior, leaving behind a legacy and the James Jordan Buck.

The buck is classified as one of the “greats” not only because of its size, but because of the Wisconsin whitetail’s well-known story throughout the hunting community. Not only will viewers hear the tale behind the whitetail, but they also will have the chance to hear interviews from surviving members of Jordan’s family. And Whittington has the opportunity to join local Danbury residents for a James Jordan Buck celebration.

“The James Jordan Buck is considered a legend around here at North American Whitetail,” said Whittington. “There are world-record bucks out there, though not many, but few have a history and story behind it like this one. A great story lives on when people share it, and that’s exactly what we intend to do.”
