Meet the People Practicing Time-Honored Methods of Traditional Barbecue and Live Fire Cooking Monday, May 5 at 9 p.m. ET

DENVER (May 1, 2025) – Life of Fire with renowned pitmaster Pat Martin returns for a highly anticipated second season on Outdoor Channel, premiering on Monday, May 5 at 9 p.m. ET. Following the success of its debut season, the show dives even deeper into America’s rich and diverse barbecue culture, exploring the timeless art of live fire cooking and highlighting the people and customs behind this enduring culinary tradition.

Season two leads viewers across the country on a mouthwatering tour of flavor, fire, and heritage. The first episode starts with Martin visiting his close friend Wayne Mueller, third-generation pitmaster of the legendary Louis Mueller's BBQ, where they reveal the secrets behind Mueller’s famous “dino” beef ribs. From there, the adventure continues with fun stories and savory meals, including a spearfishing escapade in Destin, Fla., with award-winning chef Adam Evans and quail hunting and grilling with chef Jason Stanhope in Charleston, S.C.

This season showcases diverse culinary techniques and cultural traditions. From cooking ribs inspired by family legacies with chef and artist Roscoe Hall in Birmingham, to preparing Mexican street food like skirt steak tlayuda with chef Edgar Victoria in Nashville, to blending Asian-American flavors with Texas barbecue at Houston’s Blood Bros BBQ, Martin’s journeys celebrate the unique personalities and passions that fuel the live fire cooking community. The series also ventures into international culinary heritage, such as crafting Indian-inspired lamb mamna and chicken kebabs alongside chef Vivek Surti.

“I’m honored to continue sharing this life and these traditions with the fans of ‘Life of Fire,’” said host Pat Martin. “This season, we’re not only celebrating the craft of cooking over coals and flames but also spotlighting the incredible people and diverse cultures that keep this connection to fire alive. Every dish has a story, and every fire brings us closer to our roots.”

The criterion for Martin’s pilgrimage is clear – to unite lovers of fire-cooked foods and to kindle conversation about the indispensability of maintaining these historical avenues of culinary expression. Viewers will be granted backstage access to the spaces where meat, heat, and smoke converge, learning from the masters of these traditions themselves.

Life of Fire is more than just a cooking show; it’s a celebration of the bond between food, fire, and community. “At Outdoor Channel, we’re proud to bring ‘Life of Fire’ to audiences who appreciate the heritage, passion, and connection that defines barbecue culture,” said Tim Cremin, Head of Programming at Outdoor Sportsman Group.

Martin released his debut book, Life of Fire: Mastering the Arts of Pit-Cooked Barbecue, The Grill, and The Smokehouse (Clarkson Potter), in 2022. Through beautiful photography and detailed instruction, this procedural book is a must-have guide to open-fire cooking. Here, Martin looks to transform the way you cook by revealing the craft of West Tennessee-style whole hog barbecue – a tradition he has spent a lifetime studying, teaching, and celebrating.

Tune in to Outdoor Channel on Monday, May 5 at 9 p.m. ET for the premiere of Life of Fire. Martin's illuminating exploration of America's barbecue heritage promises to set the standard for televised culinary adventures.
