Annual Efforts to Feed the Needy Set to Begin in Baltimore with Comcast Partnership

DENVER – (April 18, 2023) – Sportsman Channel’s Hunt.Fish.Feed. program, which was initiated in 2007 to help feed people in need, announced its 2023 tour kicked off in Baltimore on April 18 at The Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training (MCVET) – with additional events to follow in Indiana, Colorado, California and Massachusetts.

The 2023 tour, in conjunction with Comcast, will continue raising awareness of the still-existing struggle with hunger in the United States, as well as shining a light on sportsmen and women’s contributions of game meat and fish in helping solve the problem. Since 2007, the network has served nearly 36,000 meals and donated seven tons of game meat and fish to shelters in more than 50 cities large and small across the United States.

The returning tour’s first stop at MCVET in Baltimore, Maryland features volunteers from Comcast and Outdoor Sportsman Group helping prepare and serve BBQed American Bison hoagies, potato salad with bacon and rosemary, fresh spring fruit salad, dessert and beverages to Baltimore-area veterans.

“The Hunt.Fish.Feed program has been to dozens of America’s greatest cities and towns doing our part to help correct a hunger problem that should not exist – especially for veterans,” Outdoor Sportsman Group Executive Vice President, Distribution & Affiliate Marketing Steve Smith said. “Sportsman Channel’s Hunt.Fish.Feed. is thrilled to be in Baltimore for the first time – along with sponsors and partners like Comcast – working to do our part in combatting this problem.”

Hunt.Fish.Feed., created by Sportsman Channel, is a unique outreach program that taps an underutilized food source – game meat and fish donated by sportsmen and women – to feed men, women and children struggling with hunger across America. An average event will utilize about 70 pounds of meat, which can feed nearly 150 people in need.

Sportsman Channel’s John McGannon begins his second year as the program’s Executive Chef. McGannon, a native of Northern California, is a lifelong hunter and fisherman who has spent more than 40 years perfecting his culinary skills. He works closely with volunteers gathered from each partnering location to lead and prepare meals. Local sportsmen and women donate meat or fish from their harvests for each meal and Outdoor Sportsman Group and its partners fill in the remainder to make a complete and nutritious meal.

“Hunt.Fish.Feed. is a program leading by example, representing the outdoor lifestyle community and the generosity of who they are,” McGannon said. “Since 2007, Sportsman Channel has been doing its part to call attention to the ongoing problem of hunger in America, especially with veterans. Our efforts to help solve this problem is unique and we hope others along the way will help the cause.”

“We are proud to deepen our partnership with Sportsman Channel and support another exciting year of Hunt.Fish.Feed. events to help feed people in need,” Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs for Comcast’s Beltway Region Misty Allen said.

The first half of the 2023 Hunt.Fish.Feed Schedule includes:

  • April 18 – Baltimore, MD
  • April 20 – Ft. Wayne, IN
  • May 16 – Denver, CO
  • May 18 – Sacramento, CA
  • September 21 – Lowell, MA

Entering the 2023 tour, Sportsman Channel has hosted nearly 100 events with its Hunt.Fish.Feed program, targeting those with some of the highest homeless populations, including: New York City, Los Angeles, Detroit, Denver, Orange County, Las Vegas, Houston and Washington, D.C., to name a few.
