Two Decades of Deer: North American Whitetail Television Celebrates 20 Years on Air

Celebrate by Watching “Throwback” Episodes on Both Sportsman Channel and Outdoor Channel This Fall

DENVER (August 29, 2023) – For the past two decades, North American Whitetail TV (NAW TV) has been the trusted source for all things whitetail deer. The team of experts at NAW TV travels the continent in pursuit of free-ranging whitetails, capturing the excitement of scouting, hunting and managing the land for whitetails on film — to air on Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET on Sportsman Channel and to stream on MyOutdoorTV.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, the crew chose “throwback” episodes to air on both Sportsman Channel and Outdoor Channel. Tune in for these episodes on Sportsman Channel on September 6 and 13 at 9:30 p.m. ET and again on Outdoor Channel December 5 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. ET. These unique episodes are packed with cast members’ favorite hunts dating back to when the show launched in 2003. These include special moments from NAW Editor Emeritus Gordon Whittington, Biologist Dr. James C. Kroll, whitetail expert Stan Potts, and current NAW Editor in Chief, Haynes Shelton. From Stan Potts’ infamous 2006 Ohio muzzleloader hunt for a 200-inch bruiser buck, to Gordon Whittington’s 2008 successful stalk on a 15-point giant buck in South Dakota to a more recent 2020 crossbow hunt from Haynes Shelton — each episode offers entertainment and education for every whitetail hunter.

Shelton is only recently the host of the series, since 2015, but he’s quickly a significant part of the future of this legacy brand. Raised on his family’s farm in Davie Co., North Carolina, Shelton realized his passion for deer hunting and the outdoor lifestyle at an early age through the mentorship given by his father and grandfather. After earning his Bachelor’s in English and minoring in Visual Arts at Hampden-Sydney College, Shelton began his career as Associate Editor for NAW. Soon his role expanded to include the title of Associate Producer for NAW TV. Only outranking his passion for traveling the continent in pursuit of whitetails is his love of life’s two greatest gifts – Faith and family.
