Annual Efforts to Feed the Needy Set for October 27 Through Comcast Partnership

DENVER – (October 10, 2022) – After a two-year hiatus, 2022 marks the return and renewal of Sportsman Channel's Hunt.Fish.Feed., a program initiated in 2007 to help feed people in need. The 2022 tour, in conjunction with Comcast, will continue to raise awareness to the still-existing struggle with hunger in the United States, as well as shine a light on sportsmen and women’s contributions of game meat and fish to help solve the problem. Since 2007, the network has served nearly 36,000 meals and donated seven tons of game meat and fish to shelters in more than 50 cities large and small across the United States.

The returning tour’s first stop will be at Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission in Martinsburg, West Virginia on October 27 from 11 a.m. to Noon. Volunteers from Comcast and Outdoor Sportsman Group will help prepare and serve venison “Sloppy Joes,” potato salad with bacon and rosemary, fresh fruit salad, dessert and beverages.

“It’s great to be back celebrating the 15th year of existence of the Hunt.Fish.Feed program,” Outdoor Sportsman Group Executive Vice President, Distribution & Affiliate Marketing Steve Smith said. “Hunger in the United States is still an issue and Sportsman Channel, along with sponsors and partners like Comcast, are trying to do our part to combat this problem with the Hunt.Fish.Feed. program.”

Hunt.Fish.Feed., created by Sportsman Channel, is a unique outreach program that taps an underutilized food source – game meat and fish donated by sportsmen and women – to feed men, women and children struggling with hunger across America. An average event will utilize about 70 pounds of meat, which can feed nearly 150 people in need.

Sportsman Channel host Scott Leysath, who has been working with the Hunt.Fish.Feed program since its inception, is excited to welcome John McGannon as the program’s new Executive Chef. McGannon, a native of Northern California, is a lifelong hunter and fisherman who has spent more than 40 years perfecting his culinary skills. He is looking forward to working with volunteers gathered from each partnering location to lead and prepare meals. Local sportsmen and women donate the meat or fish from their harvests for each meal and Outdoor Sportsman Group and its partners fill in the remainder to make a complete and nutritious meal.

“Hunt.Fish.Feed. is a program that represents our outdoor lifestyle community and the generosity of who they are,” Leysath said. “Since 2007, Sportsman Channel has been doing its part to call attention to an ongoing problem in America that shouldn’t exist but still does. Our efforts to help solve the problem of hunger in America is unique and we hope others along the way will help the cause.”

“We are proud to be part of the Martinsburg community and excited Hunt.Fish.Feed is back so we can continue our partnership with Sportsman Channel to help feed residents in need,” Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs for Comcast’s Beltway Region Misty Allen said.

Sportsman Channel has hosted nearly 100 events with its Hunt.Fish.Feed program, targeting those with some of the highest homeless populations, including: New York City, Los Angeles, Detroit, Denver, Orange County, Las Vegas, Houston and Washington, D.C., to name a few.
