DENVER (November 15, 2021) – Join musician, television host, hunter, conservationist, pilot and dad, Nick Hoffman, on his hit series, Nick’s Wild Ride, airing on Outdoor Channel, Mondays at 8:30 p.m. ET. Hoffman takes viewers deep into the food, culture, music, history and heartbeat of the location he hunts and fishes.

“This isn’t a ‘head-to-an-outfitter-and-hunt’ kind of show,” Hoffman explained. “It’s actually the antithesis of that. It’s as much about the travel and adventure as it is about the hunt while canvassing the globe to find compelling characters and vibrant culture. With a dash of craziness.”

Nick Hoffman is an award-winning country music artist whose passion for travel and the outdoors takes him to some of the world’s most interesting places. After 12 years as the fiddle player in Country Music star Kenny Chesney’s band, he struck out on his own and scored hit songs with country trio “THE FARM.” Now, Nick’s Wild Ride shows people a side of Nick Hoffman they’ve never seen. Part traveler, part hunter, part historian, with some party-guy sprinkled in, you never know what he’ll do next.

Tune into Nick’s Wild Ride on Mondays at 8:30 pm ET on Outdoor Channel. Check local listings or visit www.OutdoorChannel.com/ChannelFinder to find the network in your area.

Odd or Invasive – But Not Inedible on Season 5 of ‘Dead Meat’ with Scott Leysath Beginning November 6 on Sportsman Channel

OSG Logo New

Popular Series Shows Even Ugly Critters Can Taste Good; Saturdays at 12:30 p.m. ET

DENVER (November 4, 2021) – Food from wild animals can be sometimes strange, sometimes scary, but not inedible if properly prepped and cooked, which is what viewers will learn on the season premiere of Dead Meat with Scott Leysath on Saturday, November 6 at 12:30 p.m. ET on Sportsman Channel.

For many hunters and gatherers, the adage, “If it is worth killing, it is worth eating” is a life-long value, and a saying that some might shudder when considering dining on some of the “less-desirable” parts. Not long-time chef, hunter and TV host, Scott Leysath. Now entering its fifth season, Dead Meat promises even more edgy, outrageous and maybe scary, moments.

This season, the series visits Florida for a swamp buggy snipe hunt, and then learns a new twist on cooking snipe, plus they land in Puerto Rico to see if Iguanas do really taste like chicken. And what one may consider a delicacy in other cultures (enter: Hagfish) are downright slimy and gross, stateside. But Leysath is on a mission to find those people who make eating the less-desirable parts of animals, something they do on a daily basis.

“If you look up Hagfish, you’ll see it is something you don’t want to eat,” shared Leysath. “But that’s what Dead Meat is all about. If it exists and people are eating it, we want to learn about it.”

Listen to Leysath share what is on the table this season on Dead Meat on “The Revolution with Jim and Trav.”

Watch Dead Meat on Sportsman Channel on Saturdays at 12:30 p.m. ET.

‘Backyard Ballistics': New Series Features Engineering Challenges Set by Fans on Outdoor Channel

OSG Logo New

DENVER (November 3, 2021) – What’s the angle to properly launch a gadget 50 feet to hit its target using just a slingshot and some items found in a junkyard? That’s Backyard Ballistics, a new series airing Wednesdays at 7 p.m. ET on Outdoor Channel with hosts Jorg Sprave and Cheyenne Ruether. This unique series is as much about the science, engineering, construction and building as it is about custom weaponry and gadgets that launch, shoot and explode.

The hosts come to each episode taking on challenges set by fans – concepts that may vary from building a machine gun crossbow to slingshotting a car. Once they have their challenge in hand, the team works on the design, testing and the final results. Plus, they aren’t alone in building and launching: the series goes head-to-head with celebrity guests, professional sportsmen, apocalypse experts, the best historical ballistics ever built and more.

Jorg Sprave has an extraordinary YouTube Channel with a massive following. Based in Germany, Sprave focuses mostly on slingshots utilizing rubber bands. Ruether and Sprave team up to find the best possible solution (that may have the biggest “bang”) for whatever the fans throw at them.

Cheyenne Ruether has an impressive skill set as a journeywoman Red Seal Auto Body Technician. Her background allows her to draw from her extensive experience to help fabricate and build these technical gadgets. Ruether says that although she loves fixing and restoring cars, this show concept is a great fit because she finds destroying things equally as satisfying. Getting to design and test these weapons fills that niche. Learn more about Cheyenne’s experience on the show listening to “The Revolution Radio with Jim and Trav.”

Tune in to Backyard Ballistics, Wednesdays at 7 p.m. ET on Outdoor Channel.

‘Florida Sportsman’ Leads Effort to Restore Mahi Fishery

OSG Logo NewFlorida Sportsman

DENVER (November 1, 2021) Florida Sportsman magazine publisher Blair Wickstrom succinctly sums up the conservation message his magazine and readers are espousing: “We demand that the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council institute new conservation measures for dolphin (mahi) NOW.”

Wickstrom and Florida Sportsman magazine are spearheading an awareness campaign that includes a petition, an op-ed column and another story in upcoming issues, as well as online features and a social media campaign supporting conservation efforts to aid one of Florida’s most popular recreational fish. Wickstrom goes on to report the issues facing mahi are widely recognized among many staff, Advisory Panel members and Council members within the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, yet the only change on the horizon for dolphin is reducing the boat limit from 60 to 54. A reduction of six fish.

“It's time for action,” Wickstrom exclaims. “We, the recreational angler, need to be heard if we want to – expect to – catch a dolphin [mahi] on future offshore trips.”

Anglers are advocating and demanding a cut back in vessel limits immediately. They’re also asking the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, and the state of Florida, to reduce the number of fish they’re allowed to catch. Currently, commercial fishing boats are allowed unlimited quantities.

For nearly 20 years, efforts by recreational anglers, and even the Council have tried, unsuccessfully, to put daily commercial trip limits in place. In 2004, the Council passed a 3,000-pound trip limit, only to have the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) throw out the limit based on the assertion that dolphins were only a bycatch. The Council tried again in 2016 and 2020 to no avail.

The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council headquartered in Charleston, S.C., is responsible for the conservation and management of fish stocks within the federal 200-mile limit of the Atlantic off the coasts of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and east Florida to Key West.

“Clearly, something needs to be done and quick,” Wickstrom continues. “The dolphinfish [mahi-mahi] is an essential gamefish, and is the foundation for all offshore fishing that helps drive tourism efforts in Florida. Saltwater anglers in Florida alone provide an annual benefit of nearly $9 billion to the U.S. economy.”
