“We are thrilled about acquiring the cable syndicated rights to the first six seasons of Deadliest Catch for Outdoor Channel and look forward to bringing the excitement of these episodes to our viewers,” said Liberatore. “If ever there was programming that captures the thrill and adventure of the outdoors, this is it. Outdoor Channel Acquires Cable Syndication Rights From Twentieth Television to National Geographic Channel’s Hit Show ‘Wicked Tuna’

DENVER (June 22, 2017) –
While most of the fishing on National Geographic Channel’s Wicked Tuna takes place in the North Atlantic Ocean, fans of the show will have a new place to view their favorite captains in action as Outdoor Channel is the new syndicated cable home of the popular original series.  Announced today by Jim Liberatore, President and CEO of Outdoor Sportsman Group Networks, Outdoor Channel has acquired the exclusive cable syndication rights from Twentieth Television to air the first seven seasons – including 95 episodes – of Wicked Tuna.

“Acquiring the cable syndicated rights to air Wicked Tuna on Outdoor Channel continues to solidify the network as the destination for viewers that crave outdoor lifestyle adventure,” said Liberatore. “The stories on Wicked Tuna, an incredible series that truly encompasses the thrill of the outdoors, will no doubt have our viewers on the edge of their seats each week.”

Filmed on location in Gloucester, Massachusetts, Wicked Tuna gives viewers an in-depth look at the intense battles, fierce competition, crushing losses and major paydays of some of the country’s toughest captains. The series follows a group of salty fishermen as they make their living the way it’s been done for centuries – with rod and reel fishing, one catch at a time – all in pursuit of bluefin tuna. One bluefin can be worth more than $20,000 and, with that kind of money on the line, every captain is fighting to be the best in the fleet. Wicked Tuna is produced for National Geographic by Pilgrim Media Group.

“We are honored to represent National Geographic and its amazing portfolio of content domestically. This deal is another example of the depth and breadth of Fox’s content currently available in the cable marketplace,” said Jim Tosney, Vice President of Basic Cable Sales, Twentieth Television. “The Outdoor Channel’s brand, their commitment to growth, quality and compelling television makes it the perfect destination for Wicked Tuna.”

Survival Goes High Tech in Outdoor Channel’s Original Series – ‘Survival Science’ Beginning July 3 at 9 p.m.

Hosted by Laura Schara and Nick Mundt – Learn What It Takes to Survive Almost Anything Outdoors

Survival Science
“Survival Science” on Outdoor Channel

DENVER (June 20, 2017) – From bear attacks to facing a tornado to accidently falling from a tree-stand, outdoorsmen and women face dangers from more than just the prey they are after when they step foot outdoors. Hosts Nick Mundt of Michael Waddell’s Bone Collector and Laura Schara, co-host on MN Bound and fashion expert, will show what it takes to survive almost anything outdoors in the new, original series, Survival Science airing exclusively on Outdoor Channel beginning July 3 at 9 p.m. ET.

The first episode takes a deep dive into attacks from grizzlies – one of the most powerful land animals living in North America. From recreating a smack of the bear’s powerful arms to building their own grizzly jaws, Schara and Mundt show how deadly a bear encounter can be. “The moral of the story is…we demonstrate how powerful a grizzly attack can be on a person – nothing is safe, unless you are made from steel – and we show that, too,” explained Mundt.

“Nick and I are teaching people how to be prepared when heading outdoors by making them stop to think before taking one step outside,” said Schara. “Even if you’ve done it a thousand times before, elements change, nature changes and you always need to be literally one step ahead.”

Future episodes have Schara and Mundt testing core body temperatures and energy expended by facing hurricane-force winds and blizzard conditions. “Survival Science is all in the name of testing survival skills and this episode shows how the body reacts to extreme elements. You can literally see – with the help of geo-thermal cameras – how our core temperatures change dramatically in a matter of seconds when faced with strong winds, cold rain and biting cold – and then combine all three of those,” said Schara.

Nick Mundt grew up in the town of Spearfish, in the Black Hills of South Dakota and was a licensed guide in Wyoming for more than 15 years. He began his television career as a freelance cameraman and field producer, working for Realtree Outdoors for nine years. Currently, Mundt is a co-host on Michael Waddell’s Bone Collector and Realtree Roadtrips along with Michael Waddell and Travis “T-bone” Turner. Nick’s ability to entertain a crowd has made him a hunting camp favorite and his up-tempo attitude and humor have made him one of Outdoor Channel’s favorite personalities. Nick’s skills as a hunter and woodsman make him one of the most successful in the business.

Laura Schara is unique to the outdoor television world as she combines her deep-rooted outdoor heritage with years of fashion experience spent as a fashion trend expert for Macy’s. She can easily transition from talking fashion, home and lifestyle trends to exploring the great outdoors: hunting, fishing and cooking wild game. Currently, Schara appears on Fox Sports Network Due North Outdoors and also co-hosts MN Bound on KARE 11. One of her passions is wild game cooking as she hosts a segment called Wild in the Kitchen where she creates delicious field-to-plate recipes.

Outdoor Channel Delivers Record Breaking First Quarter

Major League Fishing and All Angles Delivers 12 of the top 15 Programs on Outdoor Channel During 1Q 2017

DENVER (June 14, 2017) Outdoor Channel continues to show ratings strength as the No. 1 top-growing basic cable network with Adults 18-34 (up +103%) and Men 18-34 (up +67%) during Total Day in the first quarter of 2017 compared to one year ago.

During Q1 2017, Outdoor Channel grew its coverage ratings during Total Day with Persons 2+ (+1%), Men 18-34 (+67%), Adults 18-34 (+103%) and Adults 18-49 (+5%) from a year ago. The outdoor lifestyle network delivered its highest first quarter ratings in seven years (1Q2011 to 1Q2017) during total day with Adults 18-34 and Men 18-34.

Outdoor Channel’s ratings success was led by programming related to fishing as the network’s Major League Fishing and All Angles accounted for 12 of the top 15 programs on the network in 1Q2017. The two shows were also the top seven programs on the network during the quarter. MLF’s popularity stems from the show’s unique format which features all competitors knowing where they stand and how other competitors are doing in real time via in-boat iPads.

“As we continue to invest significant resources to support and grow this unique and exciting series, we are excited to see the continued growth of Major League Fishing,” said CEO and President of Outdoor Sportsman Group Networks, Jim Liberatore. “It has been amazing to watch this series grow year-after-year.”

“We’re thrilled to once again have top programming with both Major League Fishing and the sister program General Tire All Angles,” said Major League Fishing General Manager, Jim Wilburn. “We reach an incredible audience of dedicated anglers through Outdoor Channel and hope to continue to grow the sport of bass fishing through these shows and our partnership with the 50 outstanding professional anglers who make it possible.”

About Major League Fishing: Developed through a joint effort between Outdoor Channel and two dozen premier bass fishing anglers in 2011, Major League Fishing brings the high-intensity sport of competitive bass fishing into America’s living rooms in the form of riveting two-hour TV episodes. Twenty-four world-class anglers are filmed over the course of a six-day event. The show captures their efforts as they utilize a demanding format that allows them to weigh all the “scorable bass” they catch. Unlike other competitive fishing events, live leaderboards in the boats allow anglers to know their standings at all times. For more information about the game, visit www.majorleaguefishing.com and follow Major League Fishing on Twitter, Instagram and on Facebook.
