Cable Operators: Comcast, Suddenlink, Mid-Continent and more also lend a helping hand
NEW BERLIN, WI (April 29, 2015) – Outdoor Sportsman Group’s Networks division (Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel and World Fishing Network) is teaming up again with multichannel video programming distributors (MVPD) – Comcast, Suddenlink, Mid-Continent and other cable operators, as well as the organizers of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association’s (NCTA) Internet & Television Expo (INTX) – to host its first Hunt.Fish.Feed. event of the year in Chicago. Volunteers from INTX, the three networks, NCTA COO Dane Snowden, as well as MVPDs, will be on hand to lend support, help prepare and serve a special “Thanksgiving in May” lunch at Pacific Garden Mission on Monday, May 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Local sportsmen and women, through the National Wild Turkey Federation, donated the turkey for the meal. The May 4 event, which Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has officially proclaimed Hunt.Fish.Feed Day in the City of Chicago, will serve more than 700 needy Chicagoans. Throughout its seven-year history, the Hunt.Fish.Feed. program has served more than 25,000 meals to less fortunate members of society in more than 40 cities.
“As we start a new year of our Hunt.Fish.Feed. program, it is only fitting that we celebrate with a ‘Thanksgiving Day’ meal that includes our great partners at Comcast, Suddenlink, Mid-Continent and NCTA/INTX,” said Steve Smith, executive vice president of affiliate sales and marketing, Outdoor Sportsman Group. “The Hunt.Fish.Feed. program continues to be a tent-pole event in our endeavors and we are very proud that our partners are teaming with us to help call attention to the problem of hunger in the United States.”
“It is especially important to recognize the hunger issue in months not ordinarily associated with the tradition of Thanksgiving,” said Pastor Phil Kwiatkowski, president of Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago. “It is gratifying to know the Outdoor Sportsman Group Networks – Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel and World Fishing Network – have chosen to celebrate Thanksgiving with us in May.”

“This Sportsman Channel series – AWAY presented by Go RVing – is a unique look into ways that people choose to satisfy their craving for the outdoor lifestyle,” said Graig Hale, vice president of business development of Sportsman Channel. “The series delivers a complete experience in the outdoors – possibly different than what most people may perceive as a typical hunting or fishing excursion – by enjoying the lifestyle with friends and family from the comforts of an RV.”
Digo and Olson set out on a mission to find one of al Qaeda’s top money handlers in Iraq. The location, known to be littered with improvised explosive devices (IEDs), meant the team would have to remain highly-attuned to their surroundings. Olson received information confirming the enemy’s presence in a nearby building, and it was clear Digo needed to assess the situation. But before Digo could enter the building, standard procedure had to be followed and a grenade was launched to clear the area of any threats. Digo and Benito soon discovered they were in for more than they had bargained for.
In an attempt to gain the perspective of the distinctive Great Blue Heron, Warren uses stilts to search Michigan waters for fish with a spear in hand. The view has its advantages, but Warren finds the refraction – a drawback the heron has adapted to – makes it difficult to know how far below the surface of the water his potential fare swims. Unaccustomed to the balancing act required to remain upright on stilts, after hours in the water, Warren begins to question his ability to hunt as a heron.
“It’s amazing how quickly bonds can form when you’re engaged in a shared task like a hunt,” said Warren. “I think I have a little taste of what it really means to be a wolf. You live as a pack, you die as a pack and you succeed and fail as a pack.”
Jony and Sgt. Riddle are required to “lead the pack” while on deployment in Afghanistan, as their bomb-sniffing skills help clear the way for fellow soldiers. Jony’s detection skills led to the discovery of more than 3,800 pounds of explosives, so it was no surprise when the Marine Corps chose them to lead the way on a mission thought to be one of the more dangerous in the area. Jony and Sgt. Riddle embark on a routine foot patrol to begin a search that would – unknowingly and unpredictably – change their lives.
NRANEWS Cam & Co. is the only news-talk series on television that authoritatively addresses the issues that are vital to more than 80 million American sportsmen and sportswomen. Host Cam Edwards explores the stories, people and places behind the headlines that affect the lifestyle of people who love to hunt, shoot and fish.
“By being at eye level to the water and looking at the world through the lens of the alligator, it’s really pushed my own personal boundaries on what it means to be close and to be patient and to be stealthy,” said Warren. “As a hunter, that’s what I strive for and that’s what I take away from this lesson. I learned what it means to have to be patient. If I took that into every avenue of hunting it would overall make me a better hunter.”
Tune in for greats like: Bill Dance, Shaw Grigsby and the In-Fisherman staff, as the crews show viewers how to fish for bass in any water, any condition, any time.
“Service dogs are a vital part of our military and I’m excited to highlight their bravery on Saving Private K-9,” said North. “This program gives Americans a true understanding about service dogs and their remarkable actions. These furry warriors are life-savers for our troops and I’m proud to bring these stories to the public.”
