DENVER (March 31, 2026) – The Action Spotter Podcast, the official podcast of Florida Sportsman Magazine, Your Outdoors Authority Since 1969, is an in-depth weekly fishing report from the most respected media brand covering outdoor pursuits in Florida and other offshore destinations. Each week, Captain Rick Ryals and Florida Sportsman’s exceptional editors and contributors extend the brand’s continued how-to and where-to leadership into the digital video realm with the new “Action Spotter Podcast.”

Each episode, Captain Rick surveys the magazine’s trusted regional experts around Florida, covering the following regions: Northeast, East Central, Southeast, South, the Keys, Ten Thousand Islands, Southwest, West Central, Big Bend, Northwest and the Panhandle. Captain Rick’s fast-paced hosting style and thoughtful line of questioning makes for truly insightful fishing reports and lays the groundwork for deeper conversations about Florida’s various fisheries.

Florida Sportsman’s “Action Spotter Podcast” is sponsored by Yamaha, D.O.A., Shimano, Strike-Zone Fishing, Tournament Master and Young boats, and is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube and Florida Sportsman.

“Our goal with the Florida Sportsman ‘Action Spotter Podcast’ is to give our audience the quick-hitting, insightful fishing reports they’ve become accustomed to in the magazine,” said Ryals, “but to do it in real-time, so they can make the most of their days on the water. But we also want to raise timely and relevant questions about our wonderful Florida wildlife resources and get people thinking about how they can do their part to preserve this incredibly rich environment for future generations.”

Following is a list of recent episodes, starting in February, and the topics discussed by Ryals and his regional experts and industry guests:

George Daniel Featured on the ‘Fly Fisherman Loop to Loop’ Podcast

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is OSG-Email-Signature_ALL-LOGOS_2024.png

DENVER (March 27, 2026) – The recent episode (#24) of the Fly Fisherman Loop to Loop podcast features an inspiring conversation with George Daniel, well-traveled and accomplished competitive fly fisher and full-time instructor at Penn State University’s prestigious Joe Humphreys Fly Fishing Program. Legendary fly fisherman George Harvey established the Penn State program in the 1930s, and it was accredited in 1947, the first of its kind. Fly Fisherman Editor and Publisher Ross Purnell visited the school several weeks back to record the podcast with program head George Daniel and a panel of current Penn State students who shared their experiences with the program and offered up intriguing questions for their beloved instructor. Listen to the Fly Fisherman Loop to Loop podcast, in partnership with Patagonia, G. Loomis, Mayfly Outdoors and Cigars International , on Apple Podcast, YouTube, Spotify, and at FlyFisherman.com.

Born and raised in north-central Pennsylvania, and smitten by the fishing bug early in life, Daniel got serious about fly fishing after reading Joe Humphreys’ Trout Tactics. During a chance meeting with Mr. Humphreys at a Fisherman’s Paradise fly shop, teenage Daniel secured an autograph and a promise that they could fish together sometime. Eventually, the two did get together, and Daniel became a fishing companion and student who learned to flourish under Humphreys’ rigorous and demanding coaching. “Joe’s a fanstastic guy,” said Daniel, “but when you go fishing with him, it’s like a drill. He was just drilling me. He would just critique everything you did. It was like tough love. It was his way of showing he cared. He was relentless on me, on so many aspects. But one of the beautiful things about fishing with Joe under those conditions was he taught me to fish under pressure. Because there’s nothing more intimidating than having Mr. Humphreys looking over your shoulder and critiquing every little thing. But that ability to fish under pressure transferred really great to when I joined the U.S. Fly Fishing Team, and even when I started teaching,” Daniel finished.

When questioned by one of the students about his experience heading up the program and the most fulfilling aspect of it, Daniel replied, “To be honest with you… It’s really getting a student to catch a fish on a fly the first time. That’s one of the cool things. A lot of times when I’ve worked with advanced anglers, which is what I did before coming to Penn State, the margins are very small and people have already caught thousands of fish up to that point and all you’re trying to do is make them one or two percent better, but when you’re actually able to see the face on someone who actually caught their first fish on a fly that they tied, that’s priceless. So, you’re basically there for that wonderful moment, and you get to see that every semester. So for me, that’s the apex of why I teach,” Daniel concluded.

“I’m honored to have had the opportunity to visit with George Daniel at Penn State and to meet some of his outstanding students,” said Fly Fisherman’s Purnell. “George is also a regular contributor to the magazine and it was great to connect with him and get a little more detail on his recent feature, “Highs & Lows,” which ran in our April-May 2026 issue (on sale March 3rd). I’ve learned quite a bit from George, who is certainly one of the best fishermen when it comes to reading the water and adapting to poor or changing conditions.”

Available on Apple Podcast, YouTube, Spotify, and at FlyFisherman.com the latest episode of Fly Fisherman Loop to Loop podcast is a must-listen for fly fishing enthusiasts of all levels who want to stay informed.

Aunt Betty ‘Waddell’ Whittaker Talks About Life, Love and Family in Booger Bottom on ‘The Michael Waddell Podcast’

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is OSG-Email-Signature_ALL-LOGOS_2024.png

Aunt Betty Remembers the Waddell Family’s Early Days with Nephew Michael Waddell

DENVER (March 25, 2026) – Aunt Betty, 92 years young, the 12th child in the homesteading Waddell Family, aunt to “Paw Paw” Waddell, great aunt to Michael Waddell, and the “Queen of Booger Bottom,” is the guest of honor on the latest episode of The Michael Waddell Podcast, presented by Spandau Arms and in partnership with Folds of Honor and Cigars International. Strong family ties and simple living in the rolling hills of Georgia’s west-central Piedmont country are featured in this heartwarming visit between Waddell Family matriarch Aunt Betty and Michael Waddell. Much of the conversation focuses on Great Depression and WWII era experiences, farm life on the Waddell homestead, school days, dating, a Pimento Festival beauty pageant surprise, good and bad times, and plenty of wit and wisdom that comes from a long life lived well.

The Michael Waddell Podcast is produced by Outdoor Sportsman Group and is available widely on Outdoor Channel YouTube, MyOutdoorTV, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and OutdoorChannel.com, to name a few.

In this episode, Aunt Betty shares many colorful stories about Michael Waddell’s great grandparents, and one story shines a special light on Waddell’s future. According to Aunt Betty, Momma Waddell had confided that she was truly worried about young Michael. “I said, ‘What’s the matter, Momma?’ and she answered, ‘Boy, I don’t know if he’s going to amount to anything or not. All he does is come up here and toot his horn and shoot that ball,” in reference to Waddell’s constant turkey talk and his love for basketball. “But, she’d be so proud of you now, if she was living,” Aunt Betty promised. “Everybody is so proud of you.”

Booger Bottom is where it all began for Michael Waddell, but there has always been some question about whether the name was legitimate. “Oh, yes, “ confided Aunt Betty. “Momma and her sister would get to arguing about where they lived, because they didn’t want to live in a place that sounded scary. Just down the way was a place commonly called, ‘Mexico,’ so they’d argue back and forth about whether they lived in Booger Bottom or Mexico, but we lived in Booger Bottom. …Back then, it was kinda scary back there, and I thought, Why can’t I live in the city; I don’t want to live back there in the woods. Momma would always want to scare me with boogers, and I’d just want to run down the road and play, and she’d say, ‘A booger is going to get you!’”

Life was good, but it wasn’t easy in the early days, and the family didn’t really have a lot, but Aunt Betty appreciated how hard Momma and Papa worked to provide for the family. “I always wanted my mom and dad to be proud. When I decided to enter this little contest, I didn’t want to enter it because I didn’t want my daddy to have to spend any money [on a dress]… I remember walking out in the gym, and when I walked out, I said, I don’t have a chance, and there was a bunch of beautiful girls, and they had beautiful dresses. Oh, they were just gorgeous, and I felt intimidated because my dress was straight and slinky, but I thought, I’m going to walk just how they told us to walk…So, I remember I had to walk in front of my mom and dad and my sister Elsie and her children, and I remember walking by and my daddy was clapping his hands…and when I won the thing, I couldn’t believe it. Daddy was smiling and he told everyone that Betty Jean had won the beauty contest.”

Papa was fiercly protective of his young beauty queen. “I dated this boy in high school, Monty Sherrill from Manchester, and he later told me, ‘Miss Betty, I was scared to death of your daddy. He said, ‘Boy, I want her home by 11 o’clock, and I don’t mean 5 after 11.’ I told him that Papa wouldn’t hurt a flea, or something like that, but he had me home on time!”

When asked about what advice she’d give to young people, Aunt Betty was thoughtful in her response. “I’d tell them to take one day at a time,” she began, “to enjoy themselves, take care of each other, put God first, love one another. …Find a purpose in life,” she continued, “something like hunting. A lot of people say, ‘Hunting?’ I say, get out on the land and enjoy nature, look around and see how beautiful the world is, you know, just where you live. Some people don’t appreciate where they live. I get up every morning and see the sunrise and sunset and it makes me happy that I’m still around, at my age. I know it takes a long time to get to be 92, but it seems like just yesterday that I was the Pimento Queen. That’s what I’d tell these young people.”

“I’m so glad that Aunt Betty came to visit with me,” said Waddell. “I tell people today, one reason I ain’t never been skinny is because of Aunt Betty. She never let none of us get skinny – all fat and happy! Our family has had a lot of good times, some bad times too, but I am so thankful for my family and the way I was raised, and everything I have is because of Booger Bottom, and I can’t wait to have another pan of Aunt Betty’s cornbread.”

The Michael Waddell Podcast releases new episodes every other week.

Waddell’s story began in the backwoods of Booger Bottom, Georgia, where he grew up surrounded by nature, family, and a love for the outdoors. A self-proclaimed “rowdy redneck,” his passion for hunting and storytelling led him to win a Realtree turkey-calling contest, which launched his career in the outdoor industry. From guiding and filming hunts to creating hit shows like Realtree Road Trips and Bone Collector, Waddell has become a beloved figure in the outdoor world.

Josh Johnson Talks ‘Hogging the Spot’ on The Bowhunter Podcast

DENVER (March 16, 2026) –The Bowhunter Podcast recently sat down for an info-packed conversation with Josh Johnson, the co-owner of Spot Hogg Archery, makers of the World’s Toughest Archery Products. Podcast Host Christian Berg, associate publisher/editor in chief of Bowhunter Magazine, visited with Johnson at Outdoor Sportsman Group’s booth during the January 2026 SHOT Show, where Harrisburg, Oregon-based Spot Hogg has been a regular exhibitor in the Archery Pavilion.

Bowhunter readers are familiar with the story of the well-known archery accessories manufacturer, but for those who don’t know where the company’s intriguing name is derived, Johnson explained: “We’re all target shooters. My entire life growing up my Dad would drag my brother and me out to shoot after shoot after shoot to get us out of my Mom’s hair. He’d take us to all these different competitions… I believe it was at Worlds, they were sharing targets, and Dad shot and put all of his arrows in the spot, and the guy after him came up and hit the back of his arrow and it ricocheted out, and he shot again and his arrow ricocheted out again, so he said, ‘Steve, quit hogging the spot.’ So, it was a spinoff of competitive shooting,” Johnson concluded.

Spot Hogg has come a long way since those early days in the late 1990s. While for more than a decade the company’s machine shop had been churning out topnotch archery accessories for another leading manufacturer, once they introduced accessories under the Spot Hogg brand, they never looked back. Today, their bowsights, arrow rests, release aids, and numerous other specialty products have earned a spotless reputation for quality, performance and durability.

“Dad was always getting frustrated because I was breaking everything,” said Johnson, in reference to the company’s now famously tough-as-nails products. “I was always the guy who would fall in the woods and break a sight, break a rest, break this or break that, so part of the reason for the durability of our products was what my Dad called, ‘Josh proofing.’”

In this far-ranging episode, Johnson and Berg discuss the long relationship between Spot Hogg and the Bowhunter brand – they’ve been part of Bowhunter TV efforts for decades and the staff has come to depend on the Spot Hogg products in the field, and to count on getting sneak peeks at new gear for the coming year. So, it should be no surprise that Johnson arrived with their new Hogg Father Pro bowsight, which represents the height of precision movable sight technology, and along with the company’s new ROTI (Reach Out and Touch It) Modular Sight System, and the game changing new addition to the system that Johnson teased for later this year, emphasizes another of Spot Hogg’s core strengths – interchangeability.

“There’s something really cool coming by the end of the year that’s going to change the game,” said Johnson. “It’s really exciting to see where our industry is going and that we can make the adjustments to our products, because we’ve already been there and had to back off our products because it was overkill for the public, but now we’re able to bring them out… So, stay tuned or you’re going to miss out,” finished Johnson.

“One of the things I love most about the archery industry,” said Host Christian Berg, “is how passionate the people are. Josh truly loves shooting a bow, and he knows from real-life experience what it takes to succeed on the target line and in the field. That’s why Spot Hogg makes some of the best bow accessories in the business, and why we trust the company’s products with our hunts!”

The episode is now available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and Podbean. Watch the full episode here. Additionally, pick up the latest issue of Bowhunter Magazine on newsstands or subscribe online at Bowhunter.com.
