Brian Pigman’ Quaca Returns for Season 17 of ‘Pigman: The Series’ on Sportsman Channel

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is OSG-Email-Signature_ALL-LOGOS_2024.png

Tune in Sundays at 8:30 p.m. ET for All-New Episodes of “Pigman: The Series”

DENVER (April 28, 2026) – Fans of Brian “Pigman” Quaca know there’s nobody in outdoor TV quite like Pigman, and in Season 17 the unabashed show host once again raises the bar – and the roof – continuing his extreme, high-energy lifestyle and sharing every moment of his rough-and-tumble hunting adventures on Pigman: The Series, airing Sunday nights at 8:30 p.m. ET on Sportsman Channel.

Long considered a trendsetter for his big personality, adrenaline-laced onscreen antics and crazy, off-the-cuff sense of humor, Pigman promises nothing less in this new season filled with the passionate pursuit of monster hogs and a mixed bag of other game reckless enough to give him a shot; and make no mistake, he’s as serious and deadly as ever with any kind of bow or firearm in his hands.

For those new to the Pigman phenomenon, Brian “Pigman” Quaca, was born and raised in Central Texas, a true-blue original and a real character who was apparently “angry at hogs” from the very beginning. He attended trade school for gunsmithing and earned a fast reputation in ranch country for being able to markedly improve a rifle’s accuracy. That, coupled with his uncanny ability to locate, hunt and bring down monster hogs, and to guide others to big boars too, launched the “Pigman” mythos, and the rest is history! Today he’s joined regularly on hunting adventures by his lovely – and equally deadly – wife, Junie, along with son, JD, and other Pigman Family and Friends.

In the current season, Pigman, as usual, sets his sights on wild boar whenever and wherever he has the opportunity, but he also takes aim at a wide variety of other wild critters. To start things off, he heads to whitetail sleeper state Arkansas in search of a mature buck at CUS Outdoors; then he’s off to his favorite, world-class hog hunting camp in Oklahoma (EP’s Hardwood Outdoors), before taking a break in New Mexico for some of what he calls, “prairie dog destruction.” Then the Pigman crew heads back to Oklahoma to bowhunt for big free-range elk and aoudad. Of course, hogs are almost always on the menu, and occasionally there’s a wild turkey “Slaughterfest,” or two, and there’s even more outlandish hunting fun to come…

It’s true: There’s certainly nobody on outdoor TV quite like Pigman! His loud and likable nature, his relentless, heart-pounding hunting style, and his knack for not only finding new adventures but sharing them with that raw and real style that resonates with his growing audience, make him a fan favorite. See what Pigman and crew are all about on Sportsman Channel every Sunday evening at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Don’t forget to catch up on past seasons of Pigman: The Series on MyOutdoorTV, Outdoor Sportsman Group’s number one streaming service. MOTV is available to subscribers on ALL DEVICES, from a big-screen TV at home to a phone in a bass boat or a stand in the woods. Patrick Wightman, NWTF’s New National Director of Turkey Research and Science, Talks Turkey Behavior on ‘The Michael Waddell Podcast’

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is OSG-Email-Signature_ALL-LOGOS_2024.png

Dr. Wightman Takes Waddell to School on Turkey Science and Turkey Hunting

DENVER (April 22, 2026) – Dr. Patrick Wightman, the National Wild Turkey Federation’s newly appointed National Director of Turkey Research and Science – the organization’s first director-level role of this kind since the 1980s – has over a decade of experience in turkey research, and he is our special guest on this episode of The Michael Waddell Podcast, presented by Spandau Arms and in partnership with Folds of Honor and Cigars International. Without a doubt, those who chase wild turkeys are among the most passionate of hunters, and since the early ‘70s, it has been members of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) who have taken the lead not only in wild turkey conservation, but also in efforts to preserve the hunting heritage. Dr. Patrick Wightman, a PhD at the University of Georgia’s prestigious Warnell School of Forestry and National Resources, was born and raised in Western New York where he was introduced to turkey hunting by his father, and he shot is first turkey at the age of 13.

Having developed a deep, scientific curiosity and genuine love for the outdoors, Wightman went on to Paul Smith’s College in New York’s Adirondack Park for undergraduate work, then to the Louisiana State University for his master’s degree (where he studied under well-known wild turkey researcher Dr. Bret Collier), and finally to the University of Georgia (UGA), where he completed his doctorate under the guidance of noted turkey researcher Dr. Mike Chamberlain and joined his research staff. Dr. Wightman has led and been involved with a wide variety of scientific studies vital to wild turkey conservation.

In his new role at the NWTF, Dr. Wightman is continuing his ground-breaking research that uses both accelerometer and audio-recording technologies in GPS tracking units for wild turkeys. He also will be overseeing and coordinating the organization’s expansive research program, working with their network of endowed professors and keeping an eye on the overall health and well-being of wild turkeys across the country with the help of the NWTF’s National Wild Turkey Technical Committee. In recent years, the NWTF has stepped up its spending in research, and historically the organization and its partners have invested tens of millions in scientific studies aimed at boosting wild turkey numbers. The NWTF has played a key role in restoring turkey populations across North America.

The Michael Waddell Podcast is produced by Outdoor Sportsman Group and is available widely on Outdoor Channel YouTube, MyOutdoorTV, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and OutdoorChannel.com, to name a few.

In this episode, Patrick Wightman talks about his own hunting background and speaking to and serving hunters in his new NWTF role: “To me, it’s extremely important from a hunting perspective because the people I’m communicating to are the hunters, and ‘How do I communicate to a hunter if I’m not one?’ And it’s the reason I got interested to begin with… People should know that the reason why this bird is mostly still on the landscape today is because of the backs of hunters,” Wightman continued. “And that’s with a lot of game species. And that’s what people don’t understand. Through the P-R dollars, the Pittman-Robertson tax, any time we buy hunting or shooting related items, 12% of that goes to the federal government and then directly back to conservation, doing research, making jobs like mine possible, and so the hunters are who cares. It’s hard for people to grasp that at times…but hunters are some of the most passionate conservationists as well and off the back of our dollars we’ve saved species, and I believe the turkey is one of them,” he finished emphatically.”

Dr. Patrick Wightman and Michael Waddell share a true passion for the wild turkey, and Dr. Wightman’s decade plus of scientific research and Waddell’s degree in “Woods Knowledge and Redneck Biology” make for a lively, turkey hunting tour de force of a podcast. Driven by Waddell’s natural curiosity and years of personal experience raising turkeys, talking to turkeys, observing them and, of course, hunting them, Dr. Wightman and Waddell cover a wide range of topics, and the following are just a few: GPS research, gobbling, turkey travel, hunting pressure, individual behavior and how it affects survival, turkey social structure and individual personalities, “lookers and strutters,” relatedness and cooperative breeding, predation and life expectancy, hen nesting, nest fidelity and re-nesting, brood raising and polt survival, how weather affects mortality, super jakes, habitat (‘Habitat is king,’ according to Dr. Wightman) and much, much more. Also, if you’ve ever wondered if turkeys know one another, give this a listen!

“I’m thankful for the NWTF,” said Dr. Wightman. “I appreciate all the ground work that’s been laid for me to even have this opportunity… Guys like James Earl Kennamer, the CEOs of the companies over the years, all the volunteers, all the staff – I think there’s 200-300 employees in that organization. I’m the fortunate one to be able to come into this position now, but they’ve done all the work to even make this position possible. The fact that the NWTF in the last four years has invested $2 million into research directly, 35 different research projects, and when matched it’s up over $20 million over the years. That’s not lost on me, and I’m very fortunate. So, I’m excited for this time. I’m excited for how excited people are around turkey research and conservation now. I feel like it’s going in a good direction and I think, together with the research and that enthusiasm, we can make a difference for this bird.”

“I was so looking forward to spending this time with Patrick Wightman – Dr. Patrick Wightman! – and I am so appreciative of his time and the opportunity to nerd-out with him on turkeys. It goes without saying that I have been obsessed with turkey hunting my entire life, but I find myself more intrigued by the wild turkey now than ever, and I’m hungry to learn more. I cannot wait to see what Dr. Patrick Wightman does in his new role at the NWTF, and I hope he calls me with all his new findings, especially if he gets the chance to measure some turkey toes as suggested by “Turkey Man” Eddie Salter and me.

The Michael Waddell Podcast releases new episodes every other week.

Waddell’s story began in the backwoods of Booger Bottom, Georgia, where he grew up surrounded by nature, family, and a love for the outdoors. A self-proclaimed “rowdy redneck,” his passion for hunting and storytelling led him to win a Realtree turkey-calling contest, which launched his career in the outdoor industry. From guiding and filming hunts to creating hit shows like Realtree Road Trips and Bone Collector, Waddell has become a beloved figure in the outdoor world.

Shawn Combs Featured on the ‘Fly Fisherman Loop to Loop’ Podcast

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is OSG-Email-Signature_ALL-LOGOS_2024.png

DENVER (April 21, 2026) – The recent episode (#27) of the Fly Fisherman Loop to Loop podcast features an entertaining and enlightening conversation with new Scott Fly Rods Vice President Shawn Combs, an aerospace industry mechanical engineer turned fly rod and gear designer who recently moved to the Montrose, Colorado based company after an impressive stint at fly fishing legacy company, Orvis. Combs grew up on Louisville, Kentucky, the child of parents who owned and ran a specialty outdoor retailer that had some fly fishing gear. “Think archery, deer and turkey, some fishing, predominantly fly fishing, but very much like, ‘You’re going on your western big-game hunt and here’s a 3-weight fly rod to catch some trout in the stream near your camp,’ that sort of fly fishing. And my dad taught me how to cast a fly rod. When I was 11, I got my first fly rod – this was an Eagle Claw 3-weight – and I fished bass ponds with poppers for bluegills and bass. When I was old enough to drive, I went to the fly shop in town, Adventure Anglers, back then it was part of Quest Outdoors, and a guy named Dick Haas sold me a Scott SAS, 9’ 5-weight. And, I remember coming back and my dad was confused, because I could have had any fly rod from the shop, but I wanted a Scott rod, and that’s what started it,” Combs concluded.

Listen to the Fly Fisherman Loop to Loop podcast, in partnership with Patagonia, G. Loomis, Mayfly Outdoors and Cigars International, on Apple Podcast, YouTube, Spotify, and at FlyFisherman.com.

Smitten somewhat by Scott’s marketing, as well as by the enhanced experience of fishing with that quality Scott rod, Combs was inspired, as a 16-year-old, to seek out certain Kentucky tailwaters in search of his first trout. Combs admitted that he developed a lot of Scott brand loyalty as a young kid and became a “Scott Fanatic,” and he continued to fly fish, as well as mountain bike and snow ski throughout college at the University of Louisville. After graduation, Combs thought he’d work for a ski company, but he ended up working at ExxonMobil. Later, he moved back to Kentucky and worked for a small engineering company that designed vapor vacuum cleaners. Then he made a career move to the Northeast, where he worked at a Lockheed Martin lab that was responsible for the US Navy’s submarine and aircraft carrier nuclear propulsion. “The theme through all this,” Combs explained, “was that I still had those three seasons – mountain biking, snow skiing, fly fishing, repeat.” Upon returning to New York from a fishing trip in Utah, Combs happened to sit next to the divisional merchandise manager for Orvis, and in the course of the trip they ended up exchanging business cards. Three months later, Combs received a job inquiry from Orvis via email, and the rest is history.

While Combs has received tremendous accolades for his design work and overall career at Orvis, he had the following to say, “Let me tell you, that was really Orvis, and the team at Orvis was positioned for what was to come in such a fantastic way. Helios, you know, Helios Gen 1, then Gen 2, and by the time we got to Helios Gen 3, I feel like it was just a really nice calling card for the community to take a second look at Orvis and to understand their stance on conservation, you know, the Fly Fishing 101 courses and bringing people into the sport, the stewardship there. I really think it all starts with product, and great product solves problems, and people will acknowledge and see that, and I think that it was the perfect kind of, ‘Orvis was this great heritage company that had done so much but maybe had veered of the road a little bit, but through some great product launches and some focus on product quality and innovation, that started to bring the eyeballs back around and then people rediscovered Orvis, some people for the first time, some for the second or third time.’ …Well, it takes a village, and props to that whole team that made it possible,” Combs finished.

When asked about making the move from Orvis to Scott, Combs noted that it was a very difficult decision. “Orvis is a great brand, great people, and great product,” he said. “Leaving Orvis was more about running to an opportunity.” Combs had been friends for some time with Jim Bartschi, who is president of Scott Fly Rods and directed the brand for over two decades.

“The beauty of Scott Fly Rods is there really isn’t anything broken,” said Combs “…This was more about taking the opportunity to come in and support the brand, understand who Scott Fly Rods is and support that. Sure, there will be opportunities for Jim and myself to design new processes or new fly rods or something like that, but it wasn’t the hiring of a change agent. And from my standpoint, this is more of being part of the support team that comes in and says, ‘Here’s this great brand, making great products handcrafted and handmade in Colorado, and we’re not looking to disturb that, we’re looking to support it and carry it forward for the next 50 years.’ And that put me in a pretty comfortable place.”

“I really appreciated the opportunity to visit with Shawn Combs at the Scott Fly Rods’ shop in Montrose, Colorado,” said Fly Fisherman’s Purnell, “especially considering he’s only a few months into his new VP role. He fielded every question I had for him – and admittedly, some of them were pretty tough – but he was a wonderful host and tour guide, and I think listeners are really going to enjoy his honesty, his comments regarding Orvis and his legendary design work there, and his decision to move from one incredible dream job to another in Southwest Colorado. I also had the opportunity to tease him a bit more about his secret carp spot on the Hudson River in New York…”

Available on Apple Podcast, YouTube, Spotify, and at FlyFisherman.com the latest episode of Fly Fisherman Loop to Loop podcast is a must-listen for fly fishing enthusiasts of all levels who want to stay informed.

New MeatEater Shows Launch Fridays on MyOutdoorTV

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is OSG-Email-Signature_ALL-LOGOS_2024.png

New Episodes and Film Series Available to Stream Now

DENVER (April 10, 2026) – MyOutdoorTV (MOTV) proudly announces that new episodes of MeatEater series will be available every Friday, beginning this month. This outstanding new programming exemplifies the deepening partnership between MOTV and MeatEater. Produced by renowned outdoorsman and conservationist Steven Rinella and the MeatEater crew, new seasons of MeatEater Hunts, Cal in the Field and MeatEater Limited Series are available to stream now. MOTV also has added two all-new programs from the MeatEater fold: MeatEater – Rinella’s Field Notes (also rolling out new episodes every Friday) and MeatEater’s 12 in ‘26 (films to release monthly), and these programs build on an already robust MOTV library of shows from Rinella’s MeatEater crew.

Be sure to tune in every Friday for new episodes from the following programs:

MeatEater Hunts (Season 5): Join the MeatEater crew as they travel to wild places, learn the land (and water) and bring home meat (and hides). The new season has everything from decoying and dog hunting whitetail deer to a once-in-a-lifetime Nebraska elk hunt and a fishing trip with Steven Rinella and popular NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Elliott.

MeatEater’s Cal in the Field (Season 6): Ryan “Cal” Callaghan takes his audience on one-of-a-kind adventures and brings attention to some pressing wildlife resource concerns. In the new season, Cal heads to Massachusetts’ Atlantic coast for striped bass, to Idaho’s iconic Snake River to explore problem dams and Nez Perce tribal fishing rights, to Wyoming for a hard-to-draw elk bowhunt and much more.

MeatEater – Rinella’s Field Notes (Season 1): MeatEater fans on MOTV will love the MeatEater – Rinella’s Field Notes program, where Steven takes folks behind the scenes of some of his most amazing hunts, offering a raw, unfiltered look at the moments that didn’t make the final cut – and the ones he’ll never forget. From epic stalks and close calls to the lessons learned in the field, this series goes deeper into the stories behind the footage.

Additionally, in the all-new MeatEater’s 12 in ‘26, viewers get a year’s worth of the very best hunts, trips and adventures filmed this year. From the coasts of Alaska to wolves in Yellowstone, these aren’t highlight reels – they’re full, honest episodes that put you in the field with the MeatEater crew. In the first two episodes of this season, Janis Putelis heads to Manitoba in hopes of taking a giant black bear over bait for the first time, and then Clay Newcomb saddles up to hunt big cats with hounds in the mountains of southern Utah.

Steven Rinella, founder of MeatEater, adds a level of expertise and passion to all his projects. Of course, MyOutdoorTV also has all 13 seasons of his original iconic MeatEater series, with new content continually being added.

“It’s truly gratifying to work with Steven Rinella’s team and to build our library of MeatEater productions, further solidifying MOTV’s position as the ultimate destination for outdoor programming,” said Sean Luxton, Senior Vice President and General Manager of MOTV. “With the addition of three new seasons and two all-new MeatEater series to our existing slate of MeatEater content, we continue to give our subscribers new and more diverse ways to connect and strengthen their ties to the outdoor lifestyle.”

Steven Rinella is an avid outdoorsman, writer, and television personality best known for his ability to translate the hunting lifestyle to various audiences. He hosts the long-running television show MeatEater and the top-ranked MeatEater podcast. He is the New York Times bestselling author of over a dozen books dealing with wildlife, hunting, fishing and wild game cooking, most recently The MeatEater Outdoor Cookbook: Wild Game Recipes for the Grill, Smoker, Campstove, and Campfire and Catch a Crayfish, Count the Stars: Fun Projects, Skills, and Adventures for Outdoor Kids.
