Travis ‘T-Bone’ Turner Returns to Talk Archery, 18+ Years of ‘Bone Collector’ and Adventures of All Kinds on ‘The Michael Waddell Podcast’

T-Bone and Waddell Discuss First Bows and Current Innovations in the Archery Industry

DENVER (August 12, 2026) – Join Host Michael Waddell as he sits down with longtime friend, hunting partner and bow tech, Travis “T-Bone” Turner, who co-hosts Bone Collector with Waddell and Nick Mundt on Outdoor Channel. A fellow Georgia resident from the Piedmont country southwest of Atlanta, Turner came from humble beginnings and learned to hunt and fish with his dad, who bought him his first bow, a recurve, when he was nine or ten years old. That recurve was too heavy for him to draw and shoot comfortably, so it would be quite a few years before Turner tried archery again. This time, he bought a compound bow at the behest of some hunting buddies, and that bow changed his life. Soon he entered a local archery tournament and won the “Novice” division, which further fueled his interest, and by the late ‘80s he was competing – and winning – in tournaments throughout the Southeast. Turner won the Georgia State Championship in 1990 and was invited to join a manufacturer’s shooting pro staff. Quickly climbing the shooter ranks, a year later Turner won the ASA World Championship. Turner’s success led to his shooting professionally and running a pro shop, and his natural aptitude for bow-tuning made him a trusted resource for the folks from Realtree who were based nearby. Soon he was setting up bows for them and for their guests on the Monster Bucks show, and before long they had invited him to appear on the program with comedian and host Jeff Foxworthy, and that’s when America met “T-Bone,” who is once again our special guest on this episode of The Michael Waddell Podcast, presented by Spandau Arms and in partnership with Folds of Honor and Cigars International. Five years ago, T-Bone developed an aggressive cancer that resulted in his losing part of his right leg, and given everyone’s continued concern, we’re happy to share this recent health update:

“I’m doing good,” said T-Bone. “I need to lose some weight… I just went last week, actually, to Emory Winship Cancer Center and did all my scans and blood work, and I was up there the whole day. I have to do it every six months now, and [there was] no sign of cancer. They don’t ever like to say ‘cancer-free’ because the kind of cancer I had – myxofibrosarcoma – has a pretty high [rate] of coming back. So, we’ve done real good. No sign of cancer on that. So, we’re good. We’ll just go another six months, living our life to the fullest. Just need to lose some weight, but other than that I’m good.”

For those who have followed Travis “T-Bone” Turner’s archery career and bowhunting on TV, that’s very good news. “Archery has been so good to me,” said T-Bone. “I never was good at much of nothing. I did play sports in high school and throughout, just because I was a big dude and filled a gap on the line. But when I started archery my second go-round, you know, right out of high school, I was obsessed. Even now, it’s something that no matter how good you are, you can get better. It’s ageless. No matter whether you’re four years old or 90, if you can bend the string, you can shoot a bow, and you can do it proficiently,” T-Bone exclaimed.

A Hoyt shooter for nearly three decades, T-Bone continues to keep archery as a central focus of his life, and he also closely follows what’s happening in the archery industry. “Each year, I’m just like a kid in a candy store,” said T-Bone, “‘Like, what are they doing?’” When questioned about whether innovations in bow technology have slowed or stalled, T-Bone was quick to respond. “Actually, the speeds probably aren’t growing by leaps and bounds like they were. We’re probably topped out in that 340-350 range as far as an IBO-rated speed, but you’re taking a bow that’s shooting that fast and you’re making it shootable now. Whereas… it’s extremely light, which is something that was unheard of, the whole mass [of the] bow is a lot lighter now, it’s quieter now, less vibration, so you’re getting shootability now. So, they’re directing their innovations in 340 fps and then they’re carving it out to where it’s extremely accurate as if it was a tournament bow that’s a 40-inch axle-to-axle bow. We’re doing that with a hunting bow anywhere from 30-34 inches axle-to-axle, so if you really cut up all the things they’re doing, yeah, innovation is still going on… It may not be growing leaps and bounds with speed, but they’re taking that speed and harnessing it into something that’s very shootable, very quiet and very freezer-filling.”

On this podcast, Waddell and T-Bone take a deep dive on arrows and other archery accessories that can improve bow setup and performance in the field, but T-Bone was quick to point out that there’s no substitute for practice. “Time behind a bow and building confidence in your setup is invaluable,” T-Bone began. “So many people try to buy themselves, ‘Hey, if I get this sight, or if I get this rest, or if buy this new vane, I’m going to be more accurate.’ There’s nothing that’s going to duplicate getting out there and shooting and building confidence, becoming one with your bow, becoming one with your arrow, and building that confidence so that when that nanosecond opportunity comes, because it only comes, you know, once, maybe twice, three times a year, especially for the average guy that can only hunt a little bit. You have to be prepared. There’s nothing that you can do, buying-wise, to increase your accuracy more than spending some time behind the bow, bending the string and getting some arrows down range. Just know that you’re going to be able to do it.”

“I see it time and again,” T-Bone continued, “and I know we’ve got busy lives, but everybody can scratch out time to shoot 5 or 10 arrows a day. That’s all you’ve got to do. You want to be able to shoot cold bore. But you need to do it 5 or10 times; put all your heart into it. Whereas so many people pull their bow out of the bow case two weeks before the season and try to crash-course and get back there. And they do okay, and there are some success stories, but at the end of the day, the guy that’s firing three or four days a week, you know, firing 15-20 arrows a day, is going to be so far above and beyond…”

The Michael Waddell Podcast is produced by Outdoor Sportsman Group and is available widely on Outdoor Channel YouTube, MyOutdoorTV, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and OutdoorChannel.com, to name a few.

Waddell led T-Bone into a conversation about the impact of certain new technologies and hunting practices. “I wouldn’t change the way I grew up hunting,” answered T-Bone, “because it helped build me as a hunter, and it’s part of my pedigree. But, I do like the things that are in place now, and because we do have great innovations like trail cameras, it has got me vested 12 months out of the year, meaning as my financial status can afford to – and I’m not going to put my family in ruins – I love planting a food plot, I love watching a trail camera 12 months out of the year so that I know what I am hunting and [can] go after a certain deer and or try to strategize all year long. Whereas before, I’d start scouting a month before. I wasn’t even thinking about hunting – turkey hunting – but I wasn’t thinking about deer hunting from when it ended in January until the first of August. I was onto something else. But now, I’m vested all year long…I enjoy this style of hunting because it makes me feel vested and it increases the pride factor because you feel like you’ve farmed or raised that deer because you knew he was there, you knew what size he was, you knew how old he was, and you were knowledgeable enough to get him to his full potential…if that’s your thing. It’s nice to have all those tools. If it’s legal; pop him!”

“I just love when T-Bone is around,” said Waddell. “We just have so much fun together, and I’m glad that he was able to free up some time for me to visit with him again. I admire him so much and he has been a continued blessing to me and my family and to our Bone Collector team, and I so look forward to the time when he feels healthy enough to be back on the road hunting with us again. I sure appreciate his setting up my Hoyt Carbon RX-10 for me – nobody tunes a bow like T-Bone!”

The Michael Waddell Podcast releases new episodes every other week.

Waddell’s story began in the backwoods of Booger Bottom, Georgia, where he grew up surrounded by nature, family, and a love for the outdoors. A self-proclaimed “rowdy redneck,” his passion for hunting and storytelling led him to win a Realtree turkey-calling contest, which launched his career in the outdoor industry. From guiding and filming hunts to creating hit shows like Realtree Road Trips and Bone Collector, Waddell has become a beloved figure in the outdoor world.

Consider this impressive lineup of best-in-class programming:

Realtree Outdoors (Season 26) Join Realtree Founder Bill Jordan and team as they travel the country – and the world – in search of all types of game, from waterfowl and turkeys, to deer, elk, bears and more. The new season begins with Tyler Jordan hunting turkeys in New Zealand, then shifts to early whitetail action with the Roadtrips crew in Nebraska and David Blanton in Wyoming. Then Cole Barthel heads to Canada for waterfowl. By mid-September, it’s time for the “Georgia Opener,” and the program focuses on hunting deer in the Southeast before Atlanta Braves Third Baseman Austin Riley heads west for a true monster buck.

Crush with Lee & Tiffany (Season 18) Lee and Tiffany Lakosky have blazed a trail within the outdoor industry, proving that hard work, perseverance, dedication and skill can accomplish anything. Together with their children, Cameron and Raygen, their Labrador retrievers and a revolving roster of family and friends, Team Lakosky has figured out the formula for crushing some of the biggest game there is. In the new season, Lee and Tiffany start out chasing monster mule deer in Albert, then it’s off to hunt bull elk in Montana before the first cold front coincides with October’s red moon for “Lee’s Whitetail Perfect.” When Tiffany settles in for the “Whitetail Grind” in Iowa, the season is just getting started…

The Western Hunter (Season 14) Follow hosts Nate Simmons and Chris Denham on their adventures throughout the West, from Mexico, through the Rockies and into Alaska. Every episode features stunning videography with a true appreciation and respect for our public lands. This long-standing program is about the passion we all share for true adventure; time spent with family; and gratitude for the privilege of roaming the West. The season starts with Chris and Mark Denham hunting antelope in Wyoming, then Nate Simmons climbs into Wyoming’s high country in search of public-land mule deer. On the following “Gem State Jackpot” episodes, Chris Denham plans to fill both elk and deer tags in Idaho.

Drury’s THIRTEEN (Season 13) It’s Man vs. Mother Nature and Drurys vs. Deer in the knock down drag out battle royal that is deer season. This groundbreaking program chronicles Mark and Terry Drury’s season-long quest for mature whitetails; and the sharing of tips, tactics and hunting info of all kinds is at an all-time high as the Drurys break it down to Drury’s 13 phases of deer season. With a little help from a cast of characters like Matt & Taylor Drury and Jim Thome and Gary LeVox, viewers experience all the ups and downs of Drury’s THIRTEEN. The season kicks off in Iowa with Mark Drury and Catch-A-Dream hunter Will Campbell for Phase One; then Mark heads to Missouri for a Phase 2 buck and continues hunting Phase 2 in Iowa with his mom, Lucille. On “Legends of Greener Pastures,” Mark Drury faces off with a nine-year-old buck, and Taylor Drury takes aim at a Missouri giant. Then Drury makes the most of Phase 4 in Iowa before the Phase 5 stage of High Anticipation in early November…and the rut is on!

Fatal Impact (Season 13) Since 2017, this team of enterprising young Canadian hunters and anglers have been traveling and documenting their adventures across Western Canada. Hosts Cory White, Darcy Kwiatkowski, Dana White, Missy Solberg and Jeff Solberg specialize in public-land hunting for big whitetails, mule deer, moose and more. Spectacular cinematic videography and upbeat storytelling are hallmarks of this outstanding production that emphasizes ethical and responsible hunting and preserving the sport for future generations.

Descendants Of The North (Season 7) With hearts pounding, fingers on the trigger, breathing stilled and bodies nearly frozen, Hosts Jeff Coyle and Helgie Eymundson take viewers on educational adventures into the wild across Canada and the world. Since 2020, the team has recorded a variety of hunting and trapping, honoring the traditions of the past and involving their families and friends as part of the never-ending story of living the outdoors lifestyle in the Far North.

The Fishmonger (Season 6) This program follows fourth generation commercial fisherman Tommy Gomes on his coastal journey to connect with the men and women who consistently put the best seafood on American dinner tables. These heroes of the sea regularly risk life and limb to sustainably harvest finfish and bottom-dwellers; and most commercial operators are single-boat operators. Tommy joins chefs with Michelin stars and others who are passionate about how to make the absolute most of their wild catch.

A fascinating mix of reality TV and hunting show, every episode is packed with personality as the hard-charging team members chase monster bucks and try to outdo one another. Expect brotherhood, plenty of laughter and a shenanigan or two. In a recent episode, “The Story of Maurice,” Adam LaRoche chases a legendary buck named “Maurice” at the E3 Ranch in South Texas.

HeadHunters TV – Hosts Randy Birdsong and Nate Hosie are as different as two hosts can be, but they’ve both earned the reputation for traveling further, working longer and sacrificing more to find hunting success and to share their stories with viewers. Often muddy, unshaven and red-faced from the wind and sun, no TV hunters are more determined to tag mature whitetails. In a recent program, “Kings of Kansas,” Nate Hosie heads back to Triple Creek Outfitters in Kansas and tags one of his best archery bucks of all time with his Mathews bow.

BuckVentures – Now in Season 23, Hosts Jeff Danker, Daniel McVay and Cole Cannon live by the credo, “Shoot by Sight, Walk by Faith,” and they strive to capture world-class hunts across the country while always giving God the glory. It’s their goal to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ everywhere they go. In a recent episode, “A Texas Miracle,” Cole Cannon kicks off the rifle season chasing a Sooner State legend before a longtime friend calls and tells him he’d better head to Texas.

Buckmasters – Hosted by Buckmasters Founder Jackie Bushman, with help from Mark Oliver, this program serves the industry’s #1 hunting community for serious deer hunters. Bushman and team travel wherever whitetail deer roam across North America in pursuit of the country’s most sought-after big game animal. In a recent episode, “Smoke Pole,” Aly and Jackie Bushman are in Oklahoma for muzzleloader season.

Drury’s THIRTEEN – Based on Drury Outdoors’ decades of scouting and trail camera research, this program looks at deer season in 13 phases and at the same time takes the technical aspects of outdoor entertainment to new heights. With every episode, the THIRTEEN phases are broken down and include thrilling action and hunting tips and tactics to aid viewers in their own pursuits. In a recent episode, “Deer Camp Family Ties,” the focus is on Phase Eight – Desperately Seeking – and the program follows Terry Drury’s Missouri gun camp as Lucille and Cameron Drury look to fill their tags.

Whitetail Freaks – Created and hosted by renowned whitetail authorities and fan-favorite TV personalities Don & Kandi Kisky, this program highlights every aspect of successful whitetail management and top-notch trophy hunting, from food plot planting to hanging treestands to tracking pre-season big buck movements to the selective harvesting of only the biggest, most mature whitetails. The Kiskys and their team of dedicated whitetail fanatics capture the true meaning of mega-buck hunting. A recent episode, “Kandi Kisky, Part 1,” looks at the greatest bucks that Kandi Kisky has hunted over the years.

Lean Back & Stream: ‘The MeatEater Channel’ is Back on MyOutdoorTV for one month only

DENVER (August 5, 2026) – “The MeatEater Channel” returns to MyOutdoorTV (MOTV) throughout the month of August, bringing viewers the best and the latest shows from the MeatEater crew, all pre-programmed and ready to stream. An icon in outdoor education and entertainment with a worldwide following, Steven Rinella has an insatiable curiosity about the outdoors and passion for hunting, conservation and the field-to-table lifestyle that permeates every MeatEater production, and the result is exhilarating adventure, epic storytelling, and almost always great eats. “The MeatEater Channel” includes recent seasons of MeatEater, MeatEater Hunts, MeatEater Limited Series, MeatEater Rinella’s Field Notes, MeatEater Roasts, MeatEater’s Cal in the Field, MeatEater’s 12 in 26, Rough Cuts with Steven Rinella, and the new MeatEater-production – Our Way of Life, all part of the extensive and growing library of MeatEater content available to stream now on MOTV.

Viewers won’t want to miss “The MeatEater Channel” lineup of binge-worthy shows:

MeatEater (13 seasons) – Host Steven Rinella continues what he started on the Sportsman Channel way back in 2013, deconstructing and mastering any hunting technique, tracking and pursuing wild game and procuring his own food, and then turning his harvests into mouth-watering meals. Rinella stays true to the ancestral tradition of sustenance hunting, and nothing goes to waste. Season 13 starts in Louisiana with Rinella heading offshore to spearfish for greater amberjack and then inshore to cast for redfish, then he heads to Montana to hunt deer with his muzzleloader before heading to Texas for Rio Grande turkeys, Alaska for black bears, and making a first-ever African safari to Tanzania in East Africa, and there’s much more.

MeatEater’s Cal In The Field (6 seasons) – Ryan “Cal” Callaghan takes his audience on one-of-a-kind adventures and brings attention to some pressing wildlife resource concerns. In this new season, Cal heads to Massachusetts’ Atlantic Coast for striped bass, to Idaho’s iconic Snake River to explore problem dams and Nez Perce tribal fishing rights, and to Wyoming for a hard-to-draw elk bowhunt and much more.

MeatEater Hunts (5 seasons) – Viewers follow their favorite MeatEater crew members as they travel to wild places and learn the land – and the waters – to bring home meat (and hides) and make best use of their harvests. In Season 5, there’s decoying public-land whitetails, deer hunting with dogs, a look at habitat restoration while hunting Kentucky whitetails, a once-in-a-lifetime hunt for elk in Nebraska, a series of upland and waterfowl hunts and finally, a day of fly fishing for mountain stream cutthroats with NASCAR champion Chase Elliot.

MeatEater Limited Series (2 seasons) – This series features a mixed bag of intriguing, educational content from the MeatEater crew, delving into such matters as proper grizzly bear defense; whether the Corps of Discovery really caught 100-lb. catfish on the Missouri River; what it takes to butcher a bison using Clovis points and other Ice Age tools; smoking a wild pig and prepping tasty sides from the “MeatEater Outdoor Cookbook”; a mid-winter hog hunt with Rinella and Cameron Hanes in Texas; hunting ducks with the likes of former Green Bay Packer Clay Matthews, as well as with Bussin’ With The Boys; going back to school on the MeatEater Tailgate Tour; building and racing boats made from green willow and raw buffalo hides; plus, cooking turkeys, axis deer, mystery meat and much more.

MeatEater – Rinella’s Field Notes (New) – This program takes viewers behind the scenes of some of Rinella’s most unforgettable hunts, offering a raw, unfiltered look at the moments that didn’t make the final cut – and the ones that won’t ever be forgotten. From epic stalks and close calls to lessons learned in the field, this series looks at the stories within the stories.

MeatEater Roasts (New) – MeatEater’s cooking competition show, this fast-paced program pits ordinary wild game cooks against one another as seasoned wild-game cooks and chefs add encouragment and judge the cookoff. Each week, there’s a mystery cut of wild-game meat for the competitors to use in preparing their best dish possible.

Rough Cuts with Steven Rinella (New) – Documenting six far-ranging and very diverse hunts, with each episode embracing a unique, creative approach and educational experience, this series isn’t just about the thrill of the chase but also about exploring depths of character, risks taken and lessons learned.

MeatEater’s 12 in ‘26 (New) – Presenting one outdoor film per month throughout 2026, this special production documents a single, top hunt, fishing trip or adventure. From exploring the coasts of Alaska to following wolves in Yellowstone, these aren’t highlight reels – they’re full, honest films that put you in the field with the MeatEater crew like never before.

Our Way of Life (New) – From the creators of MeatEater, this program follows Alaska native “Kootink,” Heather Douville, as she documents her tribe’s cultural and hunting practices and knowledge with the goal of teaching and instilling these values in future generations through specialty pursuits only available to a member of the Tlingit Nation. Douville embraces her heritage and fully practices what it means to be a steward of the land: respecting what she takes from the land, giving back to the land, using as much as possible and sharing with fellow tribe members. These core values define how Douville moves within her landscape of Tlingit Aani, or what is called Southeast Alaska.

“We’re extremely proud of the relationship we’re building with the MeatEater crew, and we’re absolutely thrilled to offer the MyOutdoorTV audience this incredible live channel during the dog days of summer,” said Sean Luxton, Senior Vice President and General Manager of MOTV. “Viewers will be hard pressed to find a better, more compelling batch of first-rate outdoor programming – and a good reason to seek relief from summer’s heat.”

Steven Rinella is an avid outdoorsman, writer, and television personality best known for his ability to translate the hunting lifestyle to various audiences. He hosts the long-running television show MeatEater and the top-ranked MeatEater podcast. He is the New York Times bestselling author of ten books dealing with wildlife, hunting, fishing and wild game cooking, most recently The MeatEater Outdoor Cookbook: Wild Game Recipes for the Grill, Smoker, Campstove, and Campfire and Catch a Crayfish, Count the Stars: Fun Projects, Skills, and Adventures for Outdoor Kids. He received the Conservation Achievement Award from The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership.
